Project Engineer Electrical FIFO-267952

UGL is seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Electrical to join our growing renewable energy team, delivering some of Australia's largest and most exciting energy infrastructure projects. This opportunity is ideally suited to engineers based on Australia's East Coast (QLD, NSW, VIC or ACT - SA applicants may also be considered) who are looking to work on large-scale solar, BESS, HV substation and electrical balance of plant (BOP) projects across the country on a FIFO roster.

Working within a high-performing project delivery team, you will play a key role in ensuring electrical scope is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards throughout design, construction, commissioning and handover phases.

About the Role

As a Project Engineer – Electrical, you will support the successful delivery of major renewable energy projects by coordinating technical, construction and commissioning activities while managing key stakeholder relationships across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Manage and coordinate the electrical engineering scope across design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases
  • Review and coordinate engineering deliverables, ensuring alignment with project requirements and construction objectives
  • Support project planning, scheduling, forecasting and constructability reviews
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Manage scope changes and support cost control initiatives throughout the project lifecycle
  • Ensure project delivery milestones are achieved safely, on time and within budget

Technical Coordination

  • Coordinate multi-discipline engineering activities and manage technical interfaces between stakeholders
  • Liaise with designers, subcontractors, suppliers and client representatives on electrical and technical matters
  • Review designs and provide practical construction-focused engineering solutions
  • Support procurement activities including technical evaluations and vendor coordination
  • Assist with contract administration and subcontractor management

Construction & Commissioning

  • Develop and manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), work packs and installation documentation
  • Oversee electrical installation works and ensure compliance with project specifications
  • Support testing, commissioning and energisation activities
  • Coordinate defect management and project handover activities
  • Ensure documentation and quality records are completed and maintained

Safety & Quality

  • Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities
  • Ensure compliance with project quality systems, client requirements and industry standards
  • Participate in risk assessments, site inspections and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Drive safe work practices and ensure adherence to environmental and safety obligations

About You

Essential

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience delivering HV substations, power systems, renewable energy or major infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of design-for-construction principles and project delivery methodologies
  • Experience managing technical interfaces across multiple stakeholders
  • Sound knowledge of electrical installation, testing and commissioning processes
  • Strong communication, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach
  • Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement

Desirable

  • Experience delivering utility-scale solar, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) or transmission projects
  • Familiarity with Australian electrical standards and grid connection requirements
  • Previous FIFO project experience
  • Exposure to EPC project environments

Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency

  • Willingness to work on a FIFO roster from East Coast capital cities
  • Ability to travel and work on remote project sites as required
