
OUC - The Reliable One, is presently seeking Project Engineer Distribution (Electric) for the Distribution Engineering Division.
We are looking for a detail‑oriented, solutions‑focused professional to design, estimate, and manage electrical distribution projects that deliver safe, reliable, and affordable electric service to new and existing customers.
In this role, you will be responsible for preparing designs, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and documentation for electric distribution projects; managing projects from development through completion; designing conduit and cable layouts; reviewing electrical and civil plans; estimating materials; resolving project conflicts with customers, contractors, agencies, and internal teams; and ensuring proper installation of distribution infrastructure. You will also prepare permits, train new engineers on software and design guidelines, and help develop and enhance departmental tools and systems. We are looking for a collaborative communicator with strong technical expertise and the ability to effectively manage multiple project stakeholders.

Job Purpose: Design, estimate, and manage electrical distribution projects to supply electric service to new and existing customers while protecting OUC’s interest to remain reliable, safe, and affordable. Primary Functions: Prepare designs, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and documents for Electric Distribution Projects;Manage Electrical Distribution projects from development stage through completion;Design conduit and electric cable layouts in applicable design software;Review Electrical plans for new projects;Analyze civil and electrical plans for each project;Estimate all materials associated with each project in Enterprise system;Resolve conflicts with multiple parties in the completion of projects (i.e. customers, contractors, governmental agencies, and OUC employees);Inspect Distribution Infrastructure installed properly by OUC Contractor as well as private contractors before final engineer approval;Prepare permits and maintenance of traffic indexes for City of Orlando, Orange County, City of St. Cloud, Osceola County, Depart of Transportation, and CSX Railroad;Train new engineers on software and design guidelines;Develop and review new/existing department software and estimating tools to be used in the department;File all designs and plans associated with each project for record keeping;Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Requirements: Working knowledge of all, but not limited to, the following: OUC Electric Service and Metering Installation Requirements;Electric Construction Standards (Overhead/Underground);Right of Way Permitting (Florida Department of Transportation/City of Orlando/Orange County);National Electric Code;National Electric Safety Code (NESC); Familiarity with all, but not limited to, the following: Electrical Drawings, Technical Drawings;Diagrams and Maps (i.e. Geographic Information System [GIS]);Estimate Reports;Meter Readings;Equipment (i.e. Wood stakes, paint, hammer, measuring tape, socket wrench, iPhone, Company Radio System);Cost model and quote sheets for chargeable projects;Software applications (i.e. EnterpriseOne, ePETS, CC&B, AutoCAD, ArcReader, ARM360, Cable pulling program, small network printers to larger plotters);Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws;Calculate Fault Currents of pad-mounted transformers, amperage on both sides of a transformer to size wiring, and voltage drop;Understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records; Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages;Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.). Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or directly related engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university;Minimum of four (4) years demonstrated experience in the electric distribution engineering field;Valid Driver’s license. Working Conditions: This job involves frequent working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. This job involves occasional exposure to loud noises, and may involve occasional exposure to airborne particles or fumes. Occasional recurring overtime may be required. Position requires regular work supervision. Physical Requirements: This job requires standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, repetitive motions, reaching over head, climbing (i.e. stairs, hills, ladders, etc.), and may lift up to ten (10) pounds. This job requires speaking and hearing, typing, writing, detailed inspection, and consists of driving a company vehicle.

The Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC - The Reliable One) is a municipally-owned public utility providing electric and water services to the citizens of Orlando, Florida, St. Cloud, Florida, and unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties.
Established in 1923 by a special act of the Florida Legislature, OUC is the second largest municipal utility in Florida and 14th largest municipal in the country. OUC provides electric, water, chilled water and/or lighting services to 400,000 accounts. The company is governed by a five-member commission (including the Mayor of Orlando), which is responsible for all operating policies.
OUC has maintained the best electric reliability in the state of Florida for 21 years in a row, when compared to Florida’s investor-owned utilities. Our power is produced at the OUC-owned Stanton Energy Center via a diverse fuel portfolio, which includes nearly 20 megawatts of solar energy.
And, our clean, safe, great-tasting water - which is pumped from the Lower Floridan Aquifer - undergoes more than 20,000 chemical and bacteriological water quality tests each year, including tests for more than 135 regulated and unregulated substances like lead and copper.
