Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Project Engineer is directly responsible for all document control and participates in overseeing the construction. This position interacts with the Project Manager and Project Superintendent, involving multiple facets of construction from conception to completion of a project.

  • Ensure proper document control at the project site office for all phases of the construction project.
  • Provide document support and assist field staff in all aspects of project administration; reviews and documents all field construction issues.
  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager and Project Superintendent as required.

Essential Functions Statements:

Schedule

  • Create the submittal schedule, track schedule and perform timely review of submittals. Cross reference submittals to plans and specifications. Correct and revise submittals, if required, or forward to appropriate consultant for their review.
  • Track submittal process - manage and maintain submittal schedule and submittal log.
  • Assist the Project Manager with maintaining & updating schedule documents, scheduling inspections, etc.

Quality

  • Provide effective and efficient document control including daily/weekly/monthly construction job logs and monthly construction status reports.
  • Ensure that an effective and efficient Request for Information (RFI)/change orders/shop drawings process is in place and all documentation is completed, filed and controlled in a timely manner.
  • Maintain hard files, electronic files and documentation, create and manage daily reports, photographs, update weekly reports - weather log, hot list, lessons learned, etc.
  • Assist the superintendents with managing the private consultant reports and answering to each consultant’s list of deficiencies and closing all open loops.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining the QC (quality control) log. Coordinate all QC items and log updates with QC manager.
  • Work directly with all subcontractors and vendors to ensure quality and cost control.

Safety

  • Assist the Safety Director to maintain a safe and respectful working environment at all times by implementing safety (OSHA) and risk management standards.
  • Track and document all inspections and re-inspections (as required) to include City and Third Party (soil density/compaction, accessibility, waterproofing, structural, MEP, TDHCA) inspections; maintain the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
  • Responsible for safety and risk management.
  • Ensure project site and company assets are secure at all times.
  • Assist with the set up and processing of sub-contractor draws, payroll, materials, supplies, etc. and ensure proper materials inventory.
  • Manage plan revisions on PlanGrid or other document management software.
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, owner change requests, owner change orders, etc. and all associated logs.
  • Manage consultant’s inspection reports (including deficiency logs and response to inspection reports), close-out records, etc.
  • Manage and distribute all daily reports/logs, weekly reports/logs and monthly reports/logs.
  • Manage emails and Outlook folders, common drive/portal files, hard copy files, etc.
  • Assist the superintendents with management of company purchased materials.
  • Manage, compile and store specific files during the course of the project for the Project Close-out.
  • Proactively identify issues that could lead to problems and facilitate solutions.
  • Maintain subcontractor and staff meeting minutes.
  • Create, update and maintain a variety of project controls that track the status of individual projects or task orders, changes to projects.
  • In preparation for project completion, collect warranty material, create close-out documents to ensure an effective and efficient transition for project construction completion and close-out.
  • Perform any relevant duties as assigned by the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction or Civil related field (Ex: Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology) preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of experience in the construction industry preferably in Multi-Family Housing

Technical Skills:

  • Relevant experience in a construction environment and familiarity with inspector guidelines, building codes and safety practices.
  • Use of Project Management Software (PlanGrid, Timberline Project Management, Procore, etc.)
  • Third party general contractor experience.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding blueprints.
