What to Expect
Tesla’s Cathode Advanced Manufacturing Project team is looking for a highly motivated individual to be a Project Engineer supporting the Pilot scale facilities in Fremont, CA. This is a cross-functional role that requires coordination between many different groups across Tesla in Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Production Planning, Operations, Executive team as well as groups external to Tesla.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management and execution with a technical knowledge of chemical process manufacturing. You, as a Project Engineer, will drive projects from concept through install, integration, ramp, and handover to operations as well as lead technical initiatives (i.e. process development, operational efficiency, reliability improvements) to be performed by the cross-functional team.
What You’ll Do
- Work with Cathode Engineering, Factory Design, Quality, Operations, and other supporting functions to scope and drive designs for deployment of materials for production equipment
- Determine project specifications and acquire the necessary materials for completion
- Develop scope and define parameters for project design and implementation
- Define and drive tasks to be performed by the cross-functional team
- Identify creative ways to overcome obstacles and meet the schedule despite setbacks
- Drive review and selection of external equipment vendors and integrators for delivery of selected manufacturing project scope
- Coordinate internal and external engineering findings to de-risk plant design and optimize plant operations and availability
- Track budget, equipment orders, and change order logs
What You’ll Bring
- Evidence of exceptional ability, including a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to leverage this understanding to solve challenging technical problems
- Bachelors Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 2+ years in manufacturing environment, in a mix of engineering and project roles. Experience working on the development of chemical processing is a plus
- Direct experience in planning medium capital projects (>$250 K USD) related to pilot-scale chemical processing systems, utility systems and integration of the two
- Ability to work and communicate cross-functionally, including interfacing with suppliers and third-party firms
- Proven ability to operate under pressure while managing multiple priorities simultaneously. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, occasionally requiring extended hours
- Aptitude to learn and incorporate new technologies
- Ability to identify issues and develop corrective measures to resolve
- Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
