About the Role

JB&B is seeking an Engineer, Building Intelligence, to join our growing Building Intelligence/Smart Building team. In this role, you will support the design of advanced building systems that enhance occupant experience, optimize performance, and enable energy efficiency through automation. Working across a range of sectors – including commercial real estate, healthcare, and science & technology – you will help bridge the gap between traditional MEP systems and emerging digital tools, including cloud-based platforms, analytics engines, and AI-enabled applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing smart building designs that connect building automation systems (BAS/BMS), energy meters, access control, and cloud platforms.
  • Assist in documenting those designs in Division 25 specifications.
  • Help design data flows that support energy savings, system automation, and intelligent fault detection.
  • Support implementation of data communication protocols and system integrations using standards such as BACnet/IP, Modbus, MQTT, and REST APIs.
  • Support integration of smart building data with analytics platforms that apply machine learning or AI for predictive maintenance, occupancy – based control, and energy optimization.
  • Work with senior engineers, project managers, and vendors to coordinate integration requirements across disciplines.
  • Support preparation of interface control documents and system performance reviews.
  • Participate in client meetings and workshops to understand operational goals and translate them into designs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Building Systems, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience with building automation systems, controls integration, or smart building technology.
  • Familiarity with energy monitoring systems, API integrations, and communication protocols (BACnet/IP, MQTT, REST, etc.).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Estimated compensation range: 85,000-$110,00 annual salary

Salary ranges are posted for visibility, but can be negotiated based on candidate qualifications and years of experience.
