Job

Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Project Engineer to manage and deliver smaller, less complex engineering projects under the supervision of senior engineering staff. This role is responsible for overseeing project scope, schedule, budget, and quality while serving as a client contact for assigned projects. The Project Engineer will perform design work, develop cost estimates, coordinate project teams, and ensure timely and accurate execution of deliverables. This position also supports construction oversight, contract administration, and financial tracking to ensure projects meet technical standards and organizational quality requirements.

What You’ll Do:
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed in this position. They are not intended to prescribe or restrict the assignments that management may make.
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality for smaller, less complex engineering projects.
- Serve as project engineer and client contact on assigned projects under the supervision of a Senior Engineer or Principal.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets and schedules to ensure timely completion of work.
- Assist in the preparation of engineering agreements, proposals, specifications, and contract documents.
- Develop design computations, quantity takeoffs, and probable construction cost estimates.
- Analyze reports, drawings, maps, 3D models, and test data to support project planning and design.
- Prepare or modify engineering reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and design documents.
- Lead or coordinate project teams, including engineers and Revit modelers, to produce construction documents.
- Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with contract documents.
- Provide routine contract administration support, including tracking project performance and deliverables.
- Monitor project financials, including billing accuracy, work-in-progress, accounts receivable, and collections.
- Attend client meetings, including occasional evening meetings, to represent project progress and address concerns.
- Use engineering and design software to develop technical documents and project deliverables.
- Support project quality system requirements in accordance with organizational standards.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 4 years of structural engineering experience focused on building design.
- Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) license required.
- Experience designing structural systems using steel, concrete, timber, masonry, and foundation systems.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software.
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit required.
- Experience managing multiple projects across different phases of design.
- Experience leading or coordinating engineering teams and Revit modelers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting and client interaction.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documents, journals, and regulations.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills, including geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and structural calculations.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and develop sound engineering conclusions.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, hybrid, or remote team environment.
- Experience with nontraditional materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, cables, glass, carbon fiber, or composites is a plus.

Working Environment:
This role involves both physical and mental demands and may be performed in various settings, including offices, construction sites, and confined spaces like elevator pits. Tasks often require frequent movement in multiple directions. Lerch Bates will provide reasonable accommodations upon request through Human Resources.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods while preparing engineering calculations, reviewing plans, analyzing reports, and using computer-aided engineering and design software such as Autodesk Revit and other structural analysis tools. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, calculator, and standard office equipment.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach while attending meetings, reviewing drawings, and conducting construction site visits. Site visits may involve walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or ladders, and navigating active construction environments. The employee may occasionally lift and carry plans, project files, equipment, or field tools weighing up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use written and verbal communication skills; read and interpret complex engineering data, drawings, models, specifications, contracts, and technical documents; analyze and solve technical and project-related problems; perform mathematical calculations and engineering design; and manage multiple concurrent assignments with changing deadlines and interruptions.
The employee is regularly required to exercise sound judgment, coordinate project teams, supervise the work of other engineers and modelers, interact with clients and contractors, attend meetings during the day or evening, and maintain a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug test. The drug test includes screening for marijuana, regardless of state or local laws permitting its use.
