Knife River is looking for a dependable Project Engineer to join our team!

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College degree in CEM or related field required
  • Strong Computer skills required - fluency in Microsoft Office, experience with HCSS Heavy Bid / Heavy Job, Bluebeam, Agtek preferred.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have good math skills and the ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Basic survey skills and the ability to read plans and specifications.
  • The ability to work well with others as a team and handle pressure and stressful situations positively.
  • Must have a strong commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and safety.

Duties and/or Responsibilities:

  • Help project managers prepare agency bid documents and submit bids per outlined guidelines.
  • Provide project administrative management of awarded contracts (quantity tracking, material procurement, equipment utilization, labor tracking).
  • Coordinate with Construction Manager and field leadership, establishment of project objectives, procedures, schedules, and performance requirements.
  • Maintain documentation of quantities and value of work estimated/completed to support forecasting for future project performance in HCSS tools.
  • Provide ongoing support to Construction/Operations for efficient and profitable execution of work including scheduling, procurement, and change order/supplemental work processes.
  • Monitor/Manage subcontractor’s work.
  • Partner with Contract Administrator to review and process financial aspects of contracts (ie: billings, subcontract payments, material payments, collections, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operations, material quantity discrepancies).
  • Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
  • Build and maintain relationships with agencies and community leaders.
  • Help project managers with material takeoffs for bids.
  • Ensure that work in progress conforms to specifications, is of high quality, and adheres to schedules.
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, pre-bid meetings and visit project sites to determine scope of work required in preparing bid/estimate proposal.
  • Help project managers determine labor, equipment and material requirements to complete project and use information to prepare bid/estimate proposal.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as directed by supervisor.
