Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Product Design & Manufacturability

  • Work with Sales to align customer expectations with Royal’s manufacturing and supply capabilities.
  • Design components and systems using SolidWorks and related engineering tools, with a strong emphasis on manufacturability, repeatability, and installation efficiency.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to ensure designs meet structural and functional requirements while aligning with Royal’s manufacturing capabilities.
  • Avoid unnecessary customization by steering designs toward standard, scalable solutions whenever possible.
  • Produce clear, buildable engineering drawings that suppliers can execute without ambiguity, supporting quality, accountability, and correct manufacturing outcomes.

Manufacturing & Production Support

  • Act as a primary engineering support resource for production to ensure trucks are built correctly the first time.
  • Work directly with Operations and Production teams to resolve build issues, installation challenges, and design gaps.
  • Drive continuous improvement in installation methods, safety, and efficiency through engineering refinements.
  • Ensure engineering intent is clearly documented and understood on the shop floor.

Supply Chain & Material Coordination

  • Design with material availability, lead times, and sourcing realities in mind.
  • Work proactively with Supply Chain and Materials teams to resolve part constraints, substitutions, or design changes required to support production schedules.
  • Ensure engineering decisions do not create unnecessary risk or disruption to purchasing, inventory, or manufacturing flow.

Qualifications

The Project Engineer is responsible for engineering design, manufacturing support, and execution for Royal Truck & Equipment’s truck mounted attenuator (TMA) trucks, traffic control trucks, safety cone trucks, and related equipment. This role is critical to ensure that designs can be built correctly, consistently, and efficiently, while supporting supply chain stability and production flow.

Royal’s equipment integrates electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. The Project Engineer works cross‑functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, Materials, Sales, Quality, and Production to ensure engineering decisions support manufacturability, availability of materials, and accurate builds.

The Project Engineer reports to the General Manager.

Primary Focus of the Role

This position is not design‑only. The primary focus is to:

  • Ensure engineering designs translate into correct manufacturing execution
  • Actively work through supply chain constraints and material availability
  • Support production with clear, accurate, and buildable engineering outputs
