Job Role
The Data Center Project Director is a senior project leadership position responsible for managing the complete delivery lifecycle of large-scale data center infrastructure projects, from project initiation through commissioning, customer acceptance, and final handover. This role oversees project governance, commercial performance, budget control, stakeholder management, and cross-functional coordination to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contractual commitments.Working closely with engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations, customers, and executive leadership, the successful candidate will lead complex, multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects while driving operational excellence, risk management, customer satisfaction, and long-term business success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of large-scale data center projects from initiation, planning, execution, commissioning, customer acceptance, and project closure.
- Develop and execute project delivery strategies aligned with contractual obligations, customer requirements, and organizational objectives.
- Manage overall project financial performance, including budgets, profitability, revenue milestones, cost control, cash flow, and commercial reporting.
- Direct multidisciplinary project teams across engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), commissioning, operations, and external vendors.
- Identify project risks proactively, implement mitigation strategies, manage escalations, and ensure timely resolution of critical issues.
- Oversee contract administration, variation orders, claims management, commercial negotiations, and change management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, health, safety, environmental (HSE) requirements, local regulations, and customer technical specifications.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and high customer satisfaction.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project execution methodologies, governance frameworks, and operational performance.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification are highly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in project delivery, engineering, construction, or large-scale infrastructure project management.
- Minimum 3–5 years of direct leadership experience delivering large-scale data center projects, preferably supporting facilities with more than 500 racks.
- Proven experience managing EPC/EPCM contractors, consultants, and multi-vendor project environments.
- Strong technical understanding of mission-critical data center infrastructure, including electrical systems, UPS, generators, HVAC, cooling systems, fire protection, BMS, DCIM, and related facility technologies.
- Solid knowledge of international data center standards, including Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TCCF, and ASHRAE guidelines.
- Strong leadership, commercial acumen, stakeholder management, negotiation, and project governance capabilities.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex technical, commercial, and operational risks.
- Highly resilient, adaptable, and comfortable working within a fast-paced, multicultural project environment, including extended hours when required to support critical project milestones.
- Professional fluency in written and spoken English.
