As well as being one of the UK’s biggest buildings it’s one of the nation’s busiest workplaces with thousands of people on site each day, from catering and security staff to MPs and Peers to experts keeping this iconic building running.The Restoration and Renewal Programme is carrying out the tens of thousands of hours of complex building surveys and investigations needed to inform future decisions on the restoration work needed.
We’ve already engaged teams of architects, engineers, project managers and contractors who will shape the future direction of the workRestoring Parliament is already boosting UK industries, and the restoration will use UK materials wherever possible and create jobs and apprenticeships across the country, from engineering and high-tech design to traditional crafts such as carpentry and stonemasonry.

The Houses of Parliament Restoration and Renewal Programme has been set up to tackle all the work to protect the Palace’s heritage and ensure it can continue to serve as the home of the UK Parliament for future generations.
The Palace is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Grade 1 listed building and is regarded as the world’s finest example of early Gothic Revival architecture. Our project will be the biggest and most complex restoration ever undertaken in the UK.
The Delivery Authority will procure and manage the contractors and supply chain and it will engage a team of architects, engineers, project managers and heritage experts.
