PROJECT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER, ENERGY AND DECARBONIZATION
Our client is a design build climate action firm that helps clients achieve climate neutrality and sustainable operations.

THE POSITION
Our client is seeking an Energy and Decarbonization Project Development Engineer to help deliver climate neutrality solutions to their clients.
The Project Development Engineer will identify and lead concept level design of energy efficiency and decarbonization projects for our clients buildings and campuses at large, working closely with the Vice President of Engineering.

The Project Development Engineer should be highly motivated and capable of working independently with little direction. The Project Development Engineer should be a creative thinker, capable of seeing an existing system and envisioning a low carbon solution.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
  • Act as the lead energy engineer and project developer for various projects
  • Conduct field investigations of existing building energy systems
  • Gather and document key building energy performance information including utility data, mechanical and electrical drawings, etc.
  • Perform baseline analysis and benchmarking of building- or campus-level energy usage and carbon emissions levels
  • Identify opportunities for energy- or carbon-reducing capital projects, such as upgrades to HVAC systems,
  • Prepare outline scopes of work for proposed project concepts
  • Collaborate & communicate constructively with owners to identify challenges and needs, and brainstorm solutions to their energy and carbon reduction goals.
  • Prepare concept-level drawings, sketches, reports, and/or presentations for use in communicating project concepts to customers, consultants and/or subcontractors
  • Coordinate with company sub-consulting engineers in performing design engineering and other engineering analyses of projects
  • Develop cost estimates of proposed efficiency improvements, working with equipment suppliers and installation subcontractors
  • Support and coordinate final development of construction documents and provide additional construction phase project engineering support
  • Support and add value to client-focused planning projects (climate action planning, sustainability planning):
  • Review existing energy use data and utility bills
  • Review and assess prior energy efficiency studies
  • Prepare analyses of baseline energy use and carbon emissions at the building and/or institution level
  • Provide engineering review of existing information such as energy audits, energy master plans, and other existing documentation
  • Provide recommendation and assessment of feasibility for energy reduction and decarbonization strategies

OTHER DUTIES
  • Maintain working knowledge of the latest HVAC and building energy-related products and technologies
  • Maintain contacts with equipment suppliers and sales representatives
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations
  • Work to secure relevant professional certifications
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND CHARACTERISTICS
  • BSME or related degree
  • Minimum five years of experience with energy efficiency and/or building HVAC/MEP engineering  
  • EIT or CEM certification is a plus
  • Ability to work independently with limited guidance
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and schedules simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Must be physically able to perform field surveys, including extensive standing/walking and climbing ladders
  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel
  • Field project management experience is a plus
