Our client, a growing Energy Services Company (ESCO), is seeking a Project Development Engineer to support the development of energy, solar, and infrastructure upgrade projects across the Western U.S. This role plays a critical part in evaluating customer facilities, identifying efficiency and renewable-energy opportunities, developing technical scopes, and supporting proposals that drive measurable energy and operational savings.
The ideal candidate brings strong engineering acumen, customer-facing communication skills, and experience developing solutions within ESCO, performance contracting, or energy-focused engineering environments.
Conduct site audits and assessments across commercial, industrial, municipal, and institutional facilities.
Identify opportunities for energy-efficiency measures (HVAC, controls, lighting, mechanical upgrades, etc.) and renewable-energy solutions.
Develop savings calculations, baseline models, energy-use profiles, and feasibility analyses.
Prepare engineering scopes of work, conceptual designs, and system recommendations.
Collaborate with account executives, project teams, subcontractors, and estimators throughout the project development cycle.
Support creation of preliminary and final proposals, including technical narratives, engineered solutions, and performance-contracting content.
Assist in cost estimating, budget modeling, equipment selection, and ROI/NPV analyses.
Participate in customer presentations, pitch meetings, and solution walk-throughs as needed.
Work closely with internal engineering, construction, measurement & verification, and energy-analysis teams to ensure alignment on project scope and deliverables.
Support the handoff of developed projects to construction and implementation teams.
Maintain strong relationships with vendors and subs to stay current on emerging technologies and pricing.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, or related Engineering field (or equivalent technical experience).
5+ years of experience in ESCO, energy engineering, mechanical/electrical consulting, solar development, or performance contracting.
Strong understanding of building systems, HVAC, controls, lighting, and energy modeling.
Ability to conduct site audits, develop scopes of work, and analyze energy-saving opportunities.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface directly with clients.
Must reside in Arizona or California and be willing to travel regionally.
