We invite applications for the role of Project Cost Controller within our Howden MEA Projects Division. This role will be responsible for all aspects of costing and subsequentgross profit for Howden Projects with real time cost reporting vs tender and budget and accurate full project forecasts.

What Will You Do?

Control the information flow for all finance related aspects of the project/s into the financial system to ensure accurate, complete and valid project financial reporting, timely processing of invoices and collections and timely payment of suppliers.

Project and Financial Management responsibilities include:

  • Cooperation with project managers in the development of project cost projections to ensure that acceptable profitable levels are achieved.
  • Prepare reports including analyses setting forth progress, trends and other information to make appropriate recommendations to Project Managers, Financial Manager and MD.
  • Maintain the company's vendor list in consultation with Procurement and QA to ensure that only approved vendors are loaded onto the system.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure that project accounting standards can be maintained
  • Design and maintain costing reports through which the underlying cost drivers in Projects, Manufacturing and Service areas can be understood and managed.
  • Prepare contract schedules or status reports on a weekly and monthly basis for distribution to Project Managers and Managing Director.
  • Revenue recognition for financial reporting
  • Progress invoicing for financial reporting
  • Final turnover for financial reporting
  • Closing of jobs for financial reporting
  • Cost analysis on contracts for financial reporting
  • Monthly gross profit for financial reporting
  • Maintenance of the open order book in accordance with IFRS
  • Coordinate and participate in monthly contract review meetings providing detailed feedback on project financial status
  • Responsible for weekly reporting on project/s

Accounting and Auditing responsibilities include:

  • Support Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Sub ledger and general ledger journal preparation and processing;
  • Eliminate reconciling items and resolve queries
  • Assisting external auditors with annual audit verification work on projects to justify amounts incorporated into the trial balance
  • Assisting the Financial Manager with financial requirements on an ad hoc basis in line with agreed standards.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Pro-actively manage the Customer funding position on Open jobs.
  • Support commercial management of the project
  • Update and maintain relevant information regarding customer and vendor databases.
  • Review of all purchase orders for accuracy in terms of budget allocations and limits of authority.
  • Responsible for other ad hoc duties as may be delegated from time to time.

Your Experience Should Be...

  • BCom/National Diploma in related field (Management accounting / Cost accounting / Finance)
  • 5+ years related experience in a project environment
  • Knowledge of ERP based financial reporting systems
  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • Computer literate - Advanced level
  • Good communication skills (Verbal, Read and Write)
