Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Project Coordinator - Welding to support the delivery of welding and fabrication works across rail, light rail and marine defence projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled welding professional to transition into a coordination role while contributing to complex, high-profile projects within a strong quality and compliance framework.

Initially based on a 3-week rotational roster between Henderson, WA and Canberra, ACT, you will work closely with project teams to ensure welding activities are planned, coordinated and executed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will liaise with supervisors, fabrication teams, quality personnel and a remote EN 15085 Level A Welding Engineer to support project delivery. Acting as the vital connection between site operations and project management, you will help maintain welding
quality, compliance, traceability, documentation and communication across multiple project locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee fabrication and welding activities across rail and marine projects.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and technical support to fabrication and welding teams.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, welding procedures and quality requirements.
  • Support implementation and compliance with ISO 3834 and EN 15085 standards.
  • Monitor weld quality, defects, repairs and non-conformances.
  • Coordinate inspection, testing and NDT activities.
  • Manage weld traceability, material control and project documentation.
  • Support planning, scheduling and execution of fabrication and hot work activities.
  • Work closely with a senior international welding engineer, gaining exposure to advanced welding systems and best-practice fabrication methodologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote a strong safety culture.

Quality & Traceability Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete weld traceability and auditable quality records.
  • Manage weld maps, inspection and test plans (ITPs) and NDT documentation.
  • Coordinate NCR investigations, corrective actions and repair activities.
  • Ensure all rework is completed, documented and verified in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Support quality reporting, audits and project reviews.

Essential Experience

  • Proven background in welding and fabrication within a production, manufacturing, or project-based environment.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes including MMAW, FCAW, GMAW and GTAW.
  • Understanding of preheat requirements, interpass temperature control, weld sequencing and distortion management.
  • Ability to evaluate weld quality and manage defects, repairs and rework activities.
  • Experience in a Leading Hand, Supervisor, Coordinator or similar leadership role within fabrication or welding environments.

Highly Regarded Qualifications & Experience

We encourage applications from candidates with one or more of the following:

  • CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent welding inspection certification.
  • International Welding Specialist (IWS), Welding Technologist (IWT) or other IIW-recognised qualifications.
  • WTIA Welding Supervisor qualification.
  • International Welding Inspector (IWI) certification.
  • TWI or equivalent welding inspection credentials.
  • Trade-qualified Boilermaker or Welder with proven leadership experience.
  • Experience working within structured quality systems such as ISO 3834 and/or EN 15085 environments.
