Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. The Capital Project Delivery Group is hiring a Project Coordinator for its Bowmanville Extensions Office. Under the guidance of the Senior Manager, you will coordinate the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the Bowmanville Expansion project, or other projects, as assigned.
Work Location: 111 Richmond Street, however, moving to offices in Whitby (1600 Stellar Drive) as of September 2026.
Start Rate (Non-negotiable): $52.20 per hour
What Will I Be Doing?
- Oversee the project work of consultants, to ensure compliance with Metrolinx's Engineering Standards, other codes/standards and internal user group requirements through all project stages. Services or deliverables by the consultant could include design proposals and reports, accessibility reports, contract specifications and drawings, and construction administration.
- Coordinate projects to minimize customer impacts, ensure all approvals are obtained, and that design and cost dispute resolution and completion within established budget and schedule restrictions are followed.
- Coordinate projects with external agencies including the Railways to ensure compliance with legislation, codes and the requirements of governing/regulatory authorities. Prepare related documents for meetings with agencies including agendas, presentations, and meeting minutes.
- During design, collaboratively work with the Construction Manager to develop schedules, mitigate risks, and review constructability for a best-for-project outcome.
- During construction, provide support by conducting periodic site reviews, coordinate submittal and RFI reviews, prepare change documents, and assist with invoice approvals.
- Ensure project completion and commissioning for handover to user group.
- Prepare performance evaluations for consultants and contractors.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and coordinating contracted engineering projects.
- Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of civil engineering and transportation infrastructure.
- Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate procedures, and applicable contract legislation.
- Detailed knowledge of Metrolinx Commercial and Finance procedures and processes.
- Experience in coordinating and scheduling construction project flagging with CPKC.
- Experience in coordinating construction project insurance coverage.
- Experience in coordinating stakeholder reviews of project documentation.
- Experience in coordinating meetings, taking minutes, tracking action items.
- Experience in developing and maintaining dashboards and activity/status trackers.
- Proficiency in technical writing, memo writing.
- Understanding of alternate project delivery model Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) and any related Commercial/Contract/Financial implications.
- Understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
- Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and think analytically.
- Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
- Experience working with a Class 1 railway and progressive delivery models would be considered an asset.
- A valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence is required for regular site visits. A Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 Years) will be required of the successful candidate at the time of hire.
- This position requires the successful candidate to be present at various designated onsite locations as assigned by their leader, for a minimum of three (3) days each week. Additionally, as an operational business continuity functional coordinator, the candidate should be prepared to make regular visits during evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
