Project Coordinator

Johannesburg, South Africa

Become the connector behind partnerships that drive lasting healthcare impact. In this role, you'll orchestrate strategic initiatives from inception to delivery, ensuring seamless collaboration across functions and with external partners to advance Novo Nordisk's mission across South Africa and beyond.

Your new role

As a Project Coordinator in Strategic Partnerships, you'll be the operational engine behind business development and partnership initiatives that shape our growth strategy. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Strategic Partnerships, you'll coordinate complex projects, facilitate collaboration across diverse teams, and ensure every partnership delivers on its promise to patients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading business development and partnership projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring deliverables meet timelines, governance requirements, and quality standards.
  • Coordinating cross-functional teams across Medical, Market Access, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, and IT to maintain alignment and drive progress.
  • Developing and monitoring detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, RAID logs, and resource allocations while implementing corrective actions to keep initiatives on track.
  • Analysing project and partnership performance by tracking KPIs, milestones, and value creation metrics, then preparing insights and dashboards for senior leadership and governance forums.
  • Overseeing financial management and contracting workflows, including partner payment processing, invoice validation, documentation verification, and ensuring all disbursements align with contractual milestones.
  • Managing partner engagement and operational delivery through proactive communication, timely resolution of issues, and ensuring external partners meet their obligations.
  • Identifying and mitigating project risks through assessments, RAID log maintenance, and escalating critical issues to leadership while driving innovation through process improvements, digital tools, and streamlined workflows.

Your new department

As a Strategic Partnerships Project Coordinator, you'll be responsible for coordinating, managing, and executing strategic partnership and business development initiatives across the organisation. The role ensures structured project delivery, strong cross-functional collaboration, compliance with governance, and effective partner engagement to support business growth and strategic objectives. Based in Gauteng, South Africa, you'll interface with stakeholders across the organization and external partner ecosystem to deliver impactful partnership initiatives.

Your skills & qualifications

We're seeking a Project Coordinator who thrives in fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environments and brings structure to complexity. You'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Healthcare, Science, or a related field; project management certification is advantageous, and a Master's degree would be beneficial.
  • 3–5 years of experience in project management, business development, or partnerships, ideally within the healthcare or pharmaceutical sector, with demonstrated cross-functional leadership.
  • Proven experience with contracting, governance frameworks, and financial workflows including budget management, forecasting, and payment processing.
  • Strategic thinking combined with strong analytical capability to interpret data, track performance metrics, and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and maintain clear dialogue across all organisational levels and with external partners.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional time management skills with the capacity to adapt in dynamic environments and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
