
Project Controls Specialist
Location: Roxboro, NC (Project-Based / Travel Required)
Employment Type: Full-Time / Contract
We are seeking a Project Controls Specialist to support large-scale power generation construction projects, specifically within combined cycle and simple cycle environments. This role partners closely with project management and construction teams to develop, maintain, and analyze project schedules while ensuring accurate reporting, forecasting, and performance tracking across projects of varying size and complexity.
This position plays a critical role in driving schedule integrity, supporting field execution, and delivering high-quality project controls analytics. The ideal candidate will operate as a subject matter expert in scheduling, cost, and change management while contributing to continuous improvement of project controls processes. Site presence and field engagement are expected.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and manage integrated project schedules across active construction sites
Lead schedule setup, baseline development, and ongoing updates based on field progress and vendor inputs
Perform field observations, track installed quantities, and validate schedule progress through on-site engagement
Analyze schedule performance, identify variances, and support development of recovery plans
Track and evaluate change orders and assess schedule impacts in alignment with project governance
Support project reporting through development of status reports, dashboards, and presentation-ready materials
Coordinate with project teams, vendors, and stakeholders to gather and validate scheduling data
Support cost, resource, and forecasting analysis aligned with project controls standards
Contribute to benchmarking, process improvement, and implementation of best practices in project controls
Ensure compliance with internal policies and project controls standards for reporting and data integrity
Mentor junior project controls team members and support team development initiatives
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
Minimum of 6+ years of experience in project controls, scheduling, or construction project support
Equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree
Strong understanding of project controls principles including scheduling, cost control, and change management
Ability to work in a field-based environment and support site teams
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced experience with project scheduling tools and analytics software
Strong expertise in schedule development, baseline management, and variance analysis
Experience supporting large-scale industrial or power generation construction projects
Ability to analyze vendor schedules and validate progress updates
Experience evaluating schedule impacts related to change orders and project modifications
Knowledge of risk analysis methodologies and forecasting techniques
Strong communication skills with the ability to present project data to leadership teams
Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional project teams
