EXP is currently searching for a Project Controls Manager who will be responsible for leading and managing a team, interacting with internal and external stakeholders on a broad range of projects, including but not limited to Small/Mid/Large Program Management, Design Build, EPC or EPCM projects within Transportation, Infrastructure and vertical Construction business sectors. The successful candidate must also be highly detail-oriented and organized with excellent analytic and problem-solving abilities A successful candidate will demonstrate independence and self-motivation in executing daily job duties, with minimal direction and oversight.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
- Accountability for all project planning, budgeting, change management, cost control, cost estimating, reporting and forecasting activities.
- Monitor financial performance. Identify and communicate to project manager, senior management and corporate services situations that have the potential to materially affect overall company financial performance.
- Ensure Change Management is adhered to by project team to quantify impact to schedule and cost.
- Lead the effort with project team to develop mitigation plans to stay on plan.
- Work with Project Manager to ensure alignment of the project forecast Estimate at Completion (EAC) both in terms of time and cost.
- Maintain and update the project work breakdown structure (WBS) and cost breakdown structure (CBS).
- Provide accurate internal weekly and monthly project reports and interface and present to management.
- Represent projects in PSR (Monthly Project Status Reviews) for PC, Scheduling and Risk.
- Prepare client monthly invoice.
- Prepare cost reviews and participate in project review audits and workshops.
- Analyze, trend and communicate progress information to project personnel through useful graphs and reports.
- Responsible to control and monitor project total expenditure including verifying and checking of invoices and claims from suppliers, vendors and subcontractors to ensure that all project expenditures are captured and properly coded for recording in the accounting system.
- Evaluate project contracts and commercial terms to ensure that the project controls processes are aligned to address any specific project needs.
- Understanding of contractual language and ensure the project is contract and corporate compliant.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and company standards.
- Understands contract/estimate types (Lump Sum, T&M, Fixed Fee).
- Interdisciplinary communications with engineering, construction and procurement to coordinate project activities and inputs.
- Sourcing, development and mentoring of project controls/scheduling specialists.
- Hold project team accountable for progress commitments. Influence others, not under your direct control, to drive for completion of tasks and attainment of project milestones.
- Communicate proactively with project team, stakeholders and project leadership all issues and variances which may influence the project outcome.
- Develop, report and monitor Project Risk Registers and analysis for both schedule and cost using Monte Carlo, Interactive Planning Sessions and other available tools.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to potential impacts to scope, cost and schedule.
- Develop project controls, scheduling, planning, cost control, change management and cost estimating plans and procedures.
- Provides other ad-hoc analyses and assignments, as needed.
- Provide project planning input into proposals and bids.
- Must be able to communicate to all levels of project team, including management and clients.
- Development of EP schedules for projects from FEL2 to execution phases, with milestones.
- Develop EPC resource loaded schedule phases (Engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning) with strong knowledge of Project Planning/Scheduling.
Update and maintenance of resource loaded schedules, critical path analysis, resolution of scheduling conflicts and monitoring schedule delays, impacts and variances to the baseline.
Evaluate and report schedule deviations and review change management. - Analyze, trend and communicate schedule and progress information to project personnel through useful graphs and reports.
- Provide weekly and monthly project reports and interface with Client representatives as necessary.
- Lead monthly process of Progress and Performance measurement based on EVM (Earned Value Method).
- Prepare and present project planning reports for project management and customer review.
- Hold project team accountable for progress commitments. Influence others, not under your direct control, to drive for completion of tasks and attainment of project milestones.
- Provide project planning input into proposals and bids.
- Communicate proactively with project team, stakeholders and project leadership all issues and variances which may influence the project outcome.

Conduct Training procedure classes for management, stakeholders and co-workers as needed.
What your experience looks like
- Technical diploma or degree in Construction Management, Business Management, or a related field required; PMP or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Construction, Oil & Gas, Chemical, or Petrochemical sectors.
- Strong understanding of WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) and CBS (Cost Breakdown Structure) methodologies.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including PivotTables and complex formulas.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel to project sites as required.
- Experience with project management and construction software such as Prism and Procore.
- High attention to detail with strong quality control of own work.
- Proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Broad industry knowledge with a minimum of 5 years of relevant project experience.
- Familiarity with a range of project and document management applications; certifications in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, SharePoint, Aconex, or similar platforms are considered an asset.
