Job Description

At Alstom, we build what millions depend on daily - rail transportation systems that can’t afford to fail. We’re more than 85 000 people worldwide creating the industry most diverse portfolio: high-speed trains, metros, trams, maintenance services and integrated systems.

More than a job: a mission. Shape the commercial and contractual success of a critical rail project.

We are seeking experienced Contract Managers to join our team and play a key role on the Sector One North European Train Control System project, known as S1N. The S1N project includes field strategy and delivery activities connected with ETCS, installation, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams, with a focus on Quality, Delivery, Cost, and EHS outcomes. You’ll work alongside people who show up with ownership, passion, and dedication — because they know what’s at stake: the journey home.

Your role, your impact

This is an opportunity for commercially astute contract professionals to work at the heart of a complex rail systems project, partnering closely with the Project Director, core project team, customer-facing stakeholders, legal, procurement, planning, finance, insurance, and subcontractor interfaces.

As an experienced Contract Manager, you will lead proactive contract, claims, insurance, correspondence, variation and risk management activities across the project lifecycle. You will help protect Alstom’s commercial position, support robust decision-making, and ensure the project team understands and acts in line with contractual obligations. You will be a trusted partner to the project leadership team, bringing structure, discipline and commercial clarity to a fast-moving delivery environment.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining the project contract and claims management strategy, including proactive risk mitigation, variation management, extensions of time, contract amendments and claims preparation.
  • Preparing and maintaining the Contract Management Strategy Plan with the core project team, ensuring contract obligations, risks, opportunities and claim positions are clearly understood and actively managed.
  • Monitoring project execution against contractual obligations, including contractual milestones, change events, customer and partner obligations, and potential claims or counterclaims.
  • Ensuring timely contractual notices are issued to customers, partners, suppliers and subcontractors where required.
  • Establishing project-specific commercial procedures for correspondence, notifications, insurance, variation requests/orders, and claims preparation.
  • Managing contract correspondence and maintaining reliable records to support robust claim files and commercial positions.
  • Supporting negotiations, dispute preparation and claim resolution activities, in partnership with project leadership, Legal, Customer Director and external counsel where required.
  • Providing clear contractual and commercial analysis to management, including risks, opportunities, claims, variations and commercial impacts.
  • Working closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, Project Controllers, Project Engineering Managers, procurement/Sourcing, Planning and Insurance teams to identify risks and maximise commercial opportunities.
  • Coaching and supporting other Contract Managers, Junior Contract Managers or Contract Administrators where applicable.

What you’ll bring

  • A degree in Law, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Significant contract and claims management experience, ideally gained in rail, infrastructure, construction, transport, engineering, signalling or major projects.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret and apply complex contractual documents, including terms and conditions, planning requirements, technical specifications and project documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing variations, claims, notices, correspondence, commercial procedures and contract governance.
  • Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to understand project financials and the impact of contract and claims management on project profitability.
  • Ability to anticipate issues, manage competing priorities, influence stakeholders and operate effectively in complex project environments.
  • Confidence working collaboratively and transversally across legal, project management, finance, engineering, planning, procurement, insurance and customer-facing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write clearly, present confidently and communicate with precision and transparency.

Why join us?

This is more than a contract management role. You will be joining a critical rail project where your commercial leadership will directly influence project outcomes, stakeholder confidence and the successful delivery of essential transport infrastructure.

You will work with experienced project, legal, commercial and technical teams, solving complex problems in a high-impact environment. If you enjoy bringing structure to ambiguity, turning contract strategy into practical action, and helping teams protect value while delivering for customers, this is a role where you can make a meaningful impact.
