
If you’re an experienced Project Accountant who understands the financial and commercial realities of engineering projects , this is an opportunity to work closely with Project Management across several significant cross-border projects. An established South African engineering and project house is looking for a Project Accountant to join its Randburg-based team on a contract basis (18-24 months). You’ll support and work closely with the Project Manager, taking responsibility for the day-to-day financial and commercial administration across three cross-border engineering projects . This is not purely a reporting role. You’ll be closely involved in the flow of each project – from purchasing and supplier orders through invoices, payments and project cost control – ensuring the Project Manager always has an accurate view of commitments, expenditure and financial status. Your responsibilities will include: Work closely with the Project Manager across three cross-border engineering projects. Manage and track project expenditure, commitments and costs against approved project budgets. Process, monitor and reconcile supplier and project invoices . Coordinate and track payments to suppliers and project service providers. Assist with purchasing, ordering and procurement administration in conjunction with the Project Manager. Raise and manage purchase orders and ensure expenditure is correctly allocated to the relevant project. Monitor outstanding orders, invoices, payments and financial commitments. Liaise with suppliers regarding invoices, supporting documentation, payment queries and account matters. Maintain accurate project financial records and supporting documentation. Provide the Project Manager with regular and accurate information on project spend, commitments and outstanding costs. Assist with project cost reporting, reconciliations and financial controls. Support the financial administration associated with suppliers and expenditure across different countries and currencies. Work closely with the broader project, procurement and finance teams to keep the commercial side of each project organised and up to date. Requirements Relevant Accounting, Finance or Bookkeeping qualification . Previous experience in a Project Accountant, Project Finance, Project Costing or similar project-based financial role . Importantly, previous experience within an engineering, EPC/EPCM, mining, mineral-processing, construction or project-house environment . Experience working closely with Project Managers and understanding how project expenditure flows from purchasing and orders through invoicing and payment. Practical experience with project invoices, supplier payments, purchase orders, purchasing/procurement and project cost tracking . Experience supporting cross-border or international projects would be highly advantageous. Comfortable managing the financial administration of several projects simultaneously. Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting/ERP systems. Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate financial records in a project-driven environment. Must be comfortable accepting a contract position linked to the project environment. Benefits Salary & Benefits This is a contract, office-based position in Randburg, Johannesburg .
