About the role
With a significant pipeline of opportunities identified across the Transport and Technology sectors, UGL are seeking to appoint an experienced Project Accountant working in the major projects space based from our Abbotsford project office.
The role partners with Project and Operational Leaders to deliver financial insights, manage project performance, support decision-making, and drive successful financial outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
Interpret and apply company accounting policies and methods to project accounting activities ensuring project, business unit, company and statutory reporting requirements are being met.
Prepare monthly project finance reports and all active sub-projects including details of cost to date, forecast cost to complete, allocated operational overheads, variances against budgets, financial outcome of risks and opportunities, cash flow, and forecast information.
Produce consolidated status of project reports/reviews, assisting Area Managers/Project Managers to interpret information, making recommendations for adjustments and assisting in future planning/production scheduling/ forecasting etc.
Review and analyse all actual costs/expenses against standard costs, identifying and investigating any discrepancies/ blow outs, highlighting concerns to relevant manager and assisting them to put plans in place to recover variances and ensure does not continue to happen. Provide feedback on variances to standard costs and budgets as required.
Working with individual project managers, update the cost to complete each month as inputs in the monthly forecast report.
Ensure all project invoices are paid and settled in a timely fashion, including investigating and resolving any project invoice disputes, maintaining good customer relations with suppliers and customers.
Working with project management, ensure all costs, including timesheets, are allocated to correct WBS
Present financial information, have a dialogue with team members, with limited experience and understanding of financial matters, at all levels within the project team.
Assist in the preparation of monthly progress claims on the customer.
Undertake any adhoc projects, initiatives, tasks as directed by the General Manager Finance.
Coordinate activities pertaining to intellectual property, including protection of intellectual property and developing models to leverage intellectual property (eg technology transfer and royalty arrangements).
Monthly balance sheet reconciliation and cash flow reporting.
Invoice processing.
Ensure compliance with all record keeping requirements.
About You
CA or CPA qualification plus a relevant commercial/ finance/ business degree from an accredited institute preferred.
Accounting experience on large scale infrastructure project/s is essential
Strong communication skills including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, email, SAP experience preferred
