We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Accountant to manage the financial lifecycle of our engineering projects. This role serves as a critical link between our Project Managers and the Finance Department, ensuring that project billing is accurate, compliant, and timely. The ideal candidate is an Excel power-user who enjoys the "detective work" of labor adjustments and has the technical proficiency to manage complex salary rosters for major public entities like the Turnpike Authority and NYDOT.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Billing & Invoicing: Lead the full-cycle billing process for various engineering projects, ensuring all invoices align with contract terms and client requirements
- Agency Compliance: Prepare and maintain specialized salary rosters and compliance documentation for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, NYDOT, and other public agencies
- Financial Data Management: Utilize advanced Excel spreadsheets to track project spend, monitor budgets, and provide real-time financial reporting to leadership
- Labor & Cost Adjustments: Execute labor adjustments and cost reallocations with high precision to ensure accurate project accounting and revenue recognition
- Collaboration: Partner with Project Managers to review project performance, troubleshoot billing discrepancies, and ensure all reimbursable expenses are captured
- Audit Support: Assist in gathering documentation for internal and external audits, particularly regarding government contract compliance

Requirements

Experience: 3+ years of experience in project accounting, billing, or financial coordination, preferably within the Engineering, Architecture, or Construction (AEC) industry
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and complex formulas) is required.
-  Experience with industry-standard accounting software (e.g., Deltek, BST, or similar ERP) is preferred.
- Attention to Detail: Proven ability to manage complex rosters and financial data with 100% accuracy
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain financial discrepancies to non-financial team members
- Government Contracting Knowledge: Familiarity with Turnpike Authority or NYDOT billing, or FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) compliance, is a significant plus.
