Life on the team

Join Computacenter’s GIS IT delivery organisation in a high-impact leadership role at the heart of enterprise change. You will lead a diverse portfolio of approximately 20–30 concurrent projects spanning applications, infrastructure, cloud, data and business change, with annual investment of around £5–7 million. Through a team of approximately ten Project Managers, you will turn strategic priorities into a clear, deliverable portfolio plan and create the focus, pace and governance needed for successful outcomes.

This is a visible role working with senior leaders, sponsors, Finance, Procurement, Security, Architecture, operational teams and external partners. You will shape priorities, challenge delivery confidence, guide investment decisions and step in decisively when projects need recovery. Just as importantly, you will coach and develop a capable Project Manager community, creating an environment of accountability, transparency, inclusion and continuous improvement.

What you'll need

• Own the day-to-day performance of a complex enterprise portfolio, maintaining an integrated roadmap across priorities, milestones, dependencies, resources and delivery risks.
• Lead, coach and develop a team of approximately ten Project Managers, setting clear standards for planning, governance, financial control, stakeholder engagement and delivery quality.
• Drive portfolio intake, prioritisation and reforecasting, making evidence-based recommendations on which initiatives should be accelerated, deferred, re-scoped, paused or stopped.
• Maintain strong control of approximately £5–7 million in annual expenditure, including budgets, commitments, actuals, accruals, forecasts and supplier performance.
• Establish an effective governance and assurance rhythm, challenge weak plans or forecasts and lead recovery action where delivery confidence declines.
• Provide concise, decision-led reporting and recommendations to Steering Committees and senior leadership forums.
• Strengthen portfolio insight, tools and ways of working to improve predictability, quality and value without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

What you'll bring

• A sustained track record operating at enterprise Programme or Portfolio Manager level, including at least five years as a Programme Manager and five years specifically as a Portfolio Manager or Portfolio Lead.
• Direct accountability for a portfolio of at least 20 concurrent projects and annual expenditure of approximately £5–7 million or more.
• Proven line-management responsibility for at least eight Project Managers, including objective setting, work allocation, quality, performance and capability development.
• Strong experience of portfolio governance, prioritisation, demand management, financial forecasting, resource planning, risk, dependencies and benefits tracking.
• Credibility with executive stakeholders and demonstrable experience presenting clear recommendations to Steering Committees or equivalent governance forums.
• A record of leading recovery across multiple underperforming projects and restoring delivery confidence.
• A formal programme or portfolio management qualification such as MSP or MoP, supported by PRINCE2, PMP, APM or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Clear, concise communication, commercial judgement and the ability to bring structure, pace and transparency to complex environments.

This is an established enterprise portfolio leadership role, suited to someone already operating successfully at a comparable scale and complexity.
