Job Description

What do you get if you cross an award winning, innovative, water company and over 300 dedicated team members? Our Capital Delivery team of course!

Our ambitious and innovative projects (all 5000+ of them) help to combat the challenges of waste and water infrastructure, flooding and water quality. Be a part of something bringing benefits to our communities, health outcomes and environment.

It could be the biggest challenge of your career. If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you.

We are currently looking for a Programme Controls Manager to work within our Strategic Delivery Office (SDO).

PROGRAMME CONTROLS MANAGER

Finham / Shelton / Raynesway | Strategic Delivery Office | CCS

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

As a Programme Controls Manager in our Strategic Delivery Office (SDO), you’ll act as a specialist Business Partner to major capital programmes. We’re looking for someone who is great at talking to people at all levels, who brings fresh thinking and new ways of working, and who isn’t afraid to ask questions, challenge constructively and work independently with minimal oversight.

You will be based at our Derby (Raynesway), Coventry (Finham) or Shrewsbury (Shelton) offices, working alongside a dedicated team of Controllers, Planners and Technicians, and reporting to the Senior Programme Controls Manager.

In this role you will play a central part in shaping, driving and enhancing programme controls and continuous improvement across our Capital Delivery portfolio. While the role has no direct line management, you will be a key coach and mentor—explaining complex ideas clearly, supporting others to build capability, and uplifting maturity across the SDO.

You’ll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to strengthen performance, embed best practice, and deliver continuous improvements. You will bring clarity to programme performance through regular reporting, meaningful insight and a deep understanding of controls at project, programme and portfolio levels.

This is the perfect role for someone who excels through influence rather than authority, enjoys helping others succeed, and is motivated by improving how we work across a complex capital programme.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You bring a strong track record of success within PMO/SDO, project controls, capital delivery or similar environments, particularly across complex or high value programmes. Alongside this, you demonstrate strong financial and commercial understanding, shaped by experience in high performing teams.

You communicate with confidence and influence stakeholders at every level, quickly building trust and enabling productive conversations. With a natural ability to explain, coach and support others, you help colleagues grow in both confidence and capability.

Your curiosity and continuous improvement mindset drive you to seek out better ways of working, new processes and smarter approaches. You work proactively, taking ownership, asking the right questions and progressing tasks independently.

Above all, you bring a collaborative, positive and dependable approach—committed to delivering great work and supporting others to do the same.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU

Working here isn’t just a job. You’ll be building a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.

With that in mind, here are just some of our favourite perks that you’ll get being part of the Severn Trent family:

  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/ sell up to 5 additional days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £2,250 depending on company performance)
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers
  • Family friendly policies
  • Two volunteering days per year

About Severn Trent

Water is wonderful. Without it we’d be lost. With it, everything’s possible. For every toothbrush, for every loo flushed. For the hot showers, the cool drinks, the cups of tea. But it’s not just at the heart of our homes. It’s at the heart of everything; our schools, our businesses, our hospitals. Saving lives, helping communities thrive.

We’re Severn Trent, a diverse and amazing group of people who want to keep it that way. We bring you clean water and we take it away safely too. But it’s not just what we do. It’s how we do it: not just talking, but going over and above. Stepping up and rolling our sleeves up.

It’s because we care. Not only about our water but our corner of the country. And we care for our amazing people who make all this possible. Don’t just take our word for it; we’re a Glassdoor Top 50 Company – one of the best employers in the UK right now.

At Severn Trent, we do more, because we care.
