In Sierra Leone, UN Women is recognized as a central stakeholder in advancing global norms and standards for gender equality and the empowerment of women. UN Women’s work in Sierra Leone started through UNIFEM in 2002. UN Women provides unique supports to national gender machineries, cooperating with UN, public, international community, private sector, and community-level institutions to advance the human rights of women and girls and gender equality.
Sierra Leone made key strides in the promulgation of laws and policies relating to Sexual and Gender Based violence, women’s leadership in decision-making, public life and peace and security, their access to land, inclusive financing and the promotion of agricultural and food security value chains. In line with the principle of OneUN and Leaving No One Behind, and UN Women makes deliberate efforts to develop partnerships which address the needs, demands and interests of women facing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination, vulnerability and marginalization. The Agency’s portfolio in Sierra Leone includes the following flagship Programme Initiatives across the country:
UN Women is hiring a Programme Analyst for its Women’s Economic Empowerment program. Reporting to the Head of Office, the Programme Specialist exercises overall responsibility for planning, implementing, and managing UN Women interventions under their portfolio. The Programme Specialist Women’s Economic Empowerment supervises and leads Programme Assistant staff members if any is assigned to her/his supervision.
The Programme Analyst works in close collaboration with the program and operations team, UN Women West and Central Africa Regional Office, UN Women HQ staff, the UN Agencies, Funds and Programs, Government officials from national to community-levels, multi and bilateral donors and civil society, especially women’s rights organizations, youths’ groups, etc., ensuring successful UN Women programme implementation under her/his portfolio
Key Functions and Accountabilities
Design and develop programme strategies in the area of Women’s Economic Empowerment
Draft inputs to country strategy documents, briefs, policy dialogue and other documents related to Women’s Economic Empowerment
Manage the implementation and management of the Women’s Economic Empowerment programme
Manage technical assistance and capacity development to project/programme partners
Manage the monitoring and reporting of the programme/ project
Manage the people and financial resources of the Women’s Economic Empowerment programme
Build partnerships and support in developing resource mobilization strategies
Contribute to inter-agency coordination on Women’s Economic Empowerment to achieve coherence and alignment of UN Women programmes with other partners in the country
Manage advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
