Job Description

Your Opportunity to SHINE ON:

At the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg, we believe that belonging is the heart of potential, and for more than 130 years, Camp Stephens—owned and operated by the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg—has brought this belief to life through exceptional overnight camp experiences on its island site in the heart of Lake of the Woods, near Kenora, Ontario. Guided by The Y Way and our commitment to Shine On Experiences, Camp Stephens fosters a culture where safety, inclusion, growth, and community are embedded in everything we do.

As a Program Team Member, you will help deliver engaging, adventure-based programming while ensuring the safety, skill development, and positive experience of all campers. You will contribute to both the behind-the-scenes logistics and the on-the-water or high-ropes action, helping create seamless, inspiring, and safe outdoor adventures.

WHY you’ll love Camp Stephens:

Working at Camp Stephens means being part of a values-driven, people-first culture grounded in inclusiveness, well-being, sustainability, and inspiration. You will live and work in a unique wilderness environment, build strong relationships with campers and peers, and contribute to life-changing outdoor experiences while being supported by a passionate leadership team that values belonging, learning, and personal growth.

HOW you’ll create Moments that Matter:

You will facilitate age-appropriate activities such as canoeing, kayaking, climbing, high ropes, and waterfront programs, while modeling teamwork, enthusiasm, and safety for campers. You will maintain and care for program equipment, follow risk management protocols, and support the broader camp team in delivering smooth transitions, events, and daily operations. You will also assist with program documentation, incident reporting, and end-of-season reporting to ensure continuous program improvement and accountability.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience in leading outdoor recreation, adventure-based, or waterfront programming
  • Experience working with children or youth in camp, educational, or recreational settings
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of safe outdoor practices, risk management, and proper equipment use
  • Ability to adapt, multitask, and remain calm in high-energy, outdoor environments
  • Commitment to completing the Y Winnipeg Camp Stephens Training Pathway (paid training provided if needed)
  • Required Certifications : National Lifeguard (NL) Pool, Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C

How Y Winnipeg Supports Your Impact:

  • Compensation: $58.33 - $68.33 per day
  • Professional Development: Paid training and certification opportunities; applicants who do not yet have all required certifications are encouraged to apply, as training and support may be available
  • On-site Accommodation: Includes board and lodging while on trip
  • Wellness: Complimentary Y membership and access to Employee Assistance Program
  • A supportive, mission-driven environment where your leadership and contributions are valued
