Provide excellent program and administrative support for the Urban and Community Forestry, Watershed, and other DOF headquarters programs as needed.
Duties include purchasing, travel reservations and reimbursements, meeting and conference registrations, and providing logistical and planning support for program sponsored events such as workshops, meetings, and other trainings. Assists with processing grant applications, agreements, payments, and invoices, and maintaining program records in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Can analyze and interpret data and instructions and assist with producing reports related to Urban and Community Forestry and Watershed program updates and accomplishments. Provides superior customer service to a wide variety of internal and external partners and stakeholder groups and assists with implementing programs the U&CF and Watershed teams support; programs include Virginia Trees for Clean Water, Throwing Shade VA, Riparian Forests for Landowners and the Riparian Buffer Tax Credit. Develop familiarity with agency procedures for Urban and Community Forestry and Watershed Programs and assist agency staff and the public with questions. The position involves using sound judgment, timely and effective decision making, application and interpretation of rules, regulations, and adherence to policies and procedures. DOF is an all-hazards agency in which all staff play an important role in responding to emergencies. During periods of emergency response, this position may have abnormal and/or longer work periods and/or highly stressful situations may occur.
This is a restricted-full time grant funded position.
Knowledge, skills, abilities and or competencies required to successfully perform the work: Considerable experience in general administrative and support activities, data processing and computer skills, proficient use of a personal computer including Microsoft Office suite, virtual meeting spaces such as Teams, Google platforms, and Microsoft Outlook. Familiarity with grant administration and tracking, communicates effectively both orally and in writing at all levels, provides excellent and timely customer service, works well in a team environment, and can work in an open office with many interruptions. Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, maintain files and records in accordance with agency guidelines, is able to bend, stoop, reach to file, and can lift up to 25 pounds to chest level. A valid Driver’s License and regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge and experience with state purchasing guidelines, financial and accounting systems which may include Electronic Virginia (eVA) and the Commonwealth of Virginia Cardinal enterprise system. Experience with grant administration tracking, record-keeping, and reporting.
The Virginia Department of Forestry is an Emergency Response agency, as such, all employees may be required to provide support during emergency situations; this may include nights, weekends or holidays as the need arises.

The modern government of Virginia is nearly identical in structure to the federal government, and is divided into 3 branches, these being the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches. The Virginia General Assembly is comprised of the 100-member House of Delegates and the 40-member Senate. A governor and lieutenant governor are elected every 4 years. Governors cannot be elected to or serve consecutive terms. Virginia’s judicial system consists of the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Court of Appeals of Virginia, the Circuit Courts, and the lower General District Courts and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts. Virginia has 13 electoral votes in presidential elections, and possesses 11 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
