Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Creates positive,

nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with

parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates

peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure the safety of the children enrolled in the program.
  • Document and respond to all participate incidents.
  • Maintain essential records. Attendance sheets.
  • Complete required reports.
  • Maintain current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and BBP Blood Bourne Pathogens.
  • Provide guidance and assistance during activities.
  • Prepare/ follow assigned curriculum.
  • Maintain discipline of children.
  • Ensure necessary supplies, including First Aid, BBP protective equipment.
  • Maintain rapport with parents and participants.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand written directions
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school Diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Previous experience working or participating in any sports program.
  • Previous work experience working with children is preferred.

Certification(s) and Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must complete concussion training prior to working in a sports related activity
  • CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must receive ODJFS (Ohio Department of Job and Family Services) licensing certification

within 30 days of hire. (for licensed camps only)

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics.
  • Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions

and perceptions

  • Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse

and neglect. All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process:

/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective services

  • May be required to work outside and on occasion may encounter inclement weather.
  • Ability to multitask in a changing environment
