This position performs advanced level work under the limited supervision of the Educational Program Director-DOE, Office of Healthy Schools Section in the Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support, Division of Public Schools. This position is responsible for developing resources and strategies for implementation of instruction, knowledge of the State standards for Health and Physical Education and provides leadership and technical assistance at the state and district level. This position is also responsible for the coordination of one or more state/federal grant programs and works closely with the Office of Grants Management and Project Supports regarding grant processing, reporting and compliance, financial awards, obligations, and expenditures. Some travel will be required for this position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Bureau Support Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists and collaborates with agency or interagency personnel in the design and development of K-12 resources and strategies for implementation of instruction at the state and district levels.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and support of state curricular initiatives such as the Course Code Directory, Florida’s state academic standards, virtual instructional provider reviews, Florida’s Value-Added Models and instructional materials adoption.
  • Assists in the implementation of projects or initiatives led by interagency bureaus and teams including, but not limited to, the Division of Early Learning, Bureau of School Improvement, the Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services, the Bureau of Student Achievement through Language Acquisition and the Bureau of K-12 Student Assessment.
  • Oversees the fidelity and implementation of benchmarks-aligned, high-quality instruction.
  • The employee may be required to travel in-state or out-of-state to complete the duties assigned.
  • Ensures department compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Program Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, organizes, and conducts professional learning activities related to the Office of Healthy Schools at the state and district levels.
  • The employee will participate in professional learning for the enhancement of essential skills and content related to the Office of Healthy Schools.
  • Maintains files and documentation; generate appropriate responses to information requests.
  • Provides leadership and coordination in the development, revision and/or implementation of state academic standards in Health and Physical Education.
  • Provides leadership and technical assistance to district and department personnel on instructional support, research, innovations, resources and strategies related to Health and Physical Education.
  • Assists appropriate agencies in the development, dissemination, distribution and implementation of Florida state academic standards and resources for Health and Physical Education at the district and state levels.
  • Consults with and advises assessment personnel in the development of assessment materials related to Health and Physical Education.
  • Coordinates and oversees one or more state/federal grant programs as assigned. The employee will work closely with the bureau’s Office of Grants Management and Project Supports regarding grant processing, reporting and compliance, financial awards, obligations and expenditures.
  • Provides technical assistance to grantees throughout the grant process.

State Policy Implementation Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and implementation of Florida State Board of Education Rules related to Health and Physical Education and any necessary documents.
  • Provides assistance to department personnel through bill analysis of draft legislation as assigned by the Florida Legislature.
  • Prepares written reports or briefings on educational issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Licensure/Registration/Certification/Experience or Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 4 (four) years direct experience working in education or related field.
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Ability to provide work samples of writing skills for grammar, editing and communication review upon request.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferences will be given to:

  • Knowledge of school reform policies, curriculum frameworks, Florida Standards, FDOE initiatives, and effective communication strategies.
  • Skills and abilities must include self-motivation, clear and concise communications, as well as consistent, accurate, and timely dissemination of information.
  • Proficiency with the following software is necessary to perform duties efficiently: Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook), Adobe, webinars, online survey tools, and cloud-based applications.

LEAVE INFORMATION: (CS)

    • Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.
    • Sick Leave - Career Service employees earn 8.667 hours of sick leave credits per month.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

It is the policy of the Florida Department of Education that applicants for employment/volunteer undergo Level 2 background screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
