Job Description

What We Can Achieve Together:

TNC Angola is seeking for an Angola Intern to work in its offices in Luanda and supporting programmatic and monitoring, evaluation and learning activities.

The MEL Intern will play a key role in strengthening data systems, learning processes, and program coherence across TNC’s Angola portfolio. This position supports evidence-based decision-making by improving how data is collected, analyzed, and used across conservation initiatives.

Working closely with the Angola Conservation Manager, Country Director, and program teams, the intern will help ensure that monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems are practical, aligned, and responsive to program needs.

We’re Looking for You:

The intern will work closely with program teams in Angola to support the development and implementation of monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes across TNC’s portfolio. This includes work linked to community-based conservation, freshwater systems, peats conservation, marine and coastal initiatives, and broader conservation planning efforts.

The intern will contribute to:

Data Collection, Management & Analysis

  • Collect primary and secondary data on key program social and ecological indicators;
  • Build the capacity of field officers and community monitors in data collection
  • Develop and manage a dashboard of metrics that measure progress toward achieving landscape-level outcomes for conservation and communities and ensure that the data collected is available to the project’s collaborating partners
  • Consolidate and organize baseline, monitoring, and research data across multiple workstreams
  • Support the development of socio-economic and environmental profiles for priority landscapes
  • Assist in responding to internal and external data requests in a timely and accurate manner

Reporting & Program Reviews

  • Support preparation of program reviews, including data compilation and synthesis
  • Contribute to reports, presentations, and donor-facing materials
  • Participate in review meetings and document key insights and action points

Learning & Knowledge Sharing

  • Collect and synthesize updates, document success stories, lessons learned, and field insights across teams
  • Support development of internal and external communications, as needed

Field & Program Support

  • As needed, participate in field visits to support data collection and activity monitoring
  • Assist in designing and testing simple data collection tools for community-level work
  • As needed, support coordination of workshops, trainings, and MEL-related events

Systems & Coordination

  • Maintain organized records of MEL data and documentation
  • Support alignment across teams on indicators, workplans, and reporting timelines
  • Stay informed on MEL best practices and contribute ideas for improving systems
  • Other related activities as required

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or final year student) in environmental science, social sciences, economics, statistics, or related field
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) software to create maps and for spatial analysis.
  • Experience with statistical analysis
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks and methodologies
  • Experience with data collection (e.g., Kobotoolbox, Epicollect) and analysis tools (e.g., Excel, R, SPSS, Power BI)
  • Experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research
  • Ability to communicate data clearly through writing and visuals
  • Fluency in English; Portuguese is highly desirable

Desired Qualifications

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers."
