The Program Manager, UAS supports operational groups utilizing unmanned aerial systems (UAS) across the enterprise. This role is responsible for advancing the strategic development, regulatory compliance, and operational execution of drone programs supporting utility-scale renewable energy assets. The Program Manager oversees employees and contract resources engaged in UAS operations across the fleet and is accountable for developing and implementing best management practices for both current and emerging UAS technologies. This position ensures safe, scalable, and audit-defensible UAS operations that enhance inspection efficiency, reduce O&M costs, and mitigate operational risk across a multi-site portfolio. The Program Manager, UAS is also a certified UAS pilot and performs both on-site and remote (beyond visual site) flight inspections.
Establish effective site-specific UAS implementation standards, procedures and protocols regarding the operation maintenance and utilization of UAS in the support of BHE Renewables operations. Implement and/or manage an effective flight permitting and monitoring system to ensure flights meet regulatory, safety and operational expectations
Oversee and conduct drone-based inspections, including thermal (IR), LiDAR, and visual data capture across utility-scale sites
Coordinate system wide UAS requests and requirements, coordinate pilot assignments to ensure appropriate usage and regulatory compliance
Direct the effective and standardized use of the UAS program. Ensure consistent and standardized data collection from UAS operations. Coordinate UAS inspection data collection and analysis with external software partners; deliver prioritized findings to Operations and support implementation and documentation
Oversee UAS safety and data management, airworthiness and flight operations that provides project and data management support for all UAS programs and activities
Act as BHE Renewables head UAS trainer, developing training, conducting hands on training with new pilots, and remote flight deck training with seasoned pilots
Collaborate with industry partners to guide development of new technologies, applications, and techniques. Attend training and industry seminars to determine what new technologies are being used in the utility sector
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, sciences, aviation or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree)
Two years' experience in management of utility support services or equivalent management experience. FAA Part-107 license or Part-61 pilot certification
Effective knowledge of the FAA small unmanned aircraft rules (part 107) and regulations

Valid driver's license; ability to travel to BHER sites as needed
Travel to sites with overnight stays estimated at 25-50%, up to one week at a time
