Details of Appointment

This role is a permanent, day work position working 73.50 hours per fortnight.

Benefits

Salary of $129,302 to $136,089 pa.starting salary negotiable within range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increases within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement

Working Environment

Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart and Launceston in Tasmania. This position is based at Risdon Vale.

The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time).

Duties

• Manage the strategic oversight and continuous improvement of the M.A.T.E.S peer support program, ensuring its structure and services align with the broader Department of Justice well-being strategy and complement existing Well-being Support Unit (WSU) services.
• Lead strategic initiatives to significantly enhance the wellbeing of the workforce, fostering a healthy and supportive work environment, improving employee retention, reducing absenteeism, and enhancing overall engagement and productivity.
• Oversee the development and implementation of strategies to empower managers to conduct regular, informal, and professional conversations with their teams, to proactively identify early signs of stress or burnout and facilitating connections to existing support resources.
• Lead and formalise a professional critical incident support program, providing immediate practical support and referral pathways for staff and their families following adverse events.
• Manage the development and design of protocols for escalating significant mental health concerns to ensure the safety of both peers and those they support, ensuring the right help is provided at the right time.
• Promote staff well-being by developing and implementing a robust communications plan and actively representing the organisation in relevant health and wellness initiatives and working groups.
• Develop and implement specialised programs for the ongoing monitoring and support of staff in trauma-exposed roles, using evidence-based practices to proactively identify and mitigate the risks of cumulative trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout.

Desirable Requirements

• Qualifications in Social Services or Psychology
• Experience working in a Correctional Environment
• Mental Health First Aid Certificate
