Program Manager – Medical

Business Unit: Global Medical Solutions

Reports to: VP, Global Medical Solutions or Senior Program Director, Medical

Location: Field-based

Role Type: People Manager

Travel: 50% or more, including global travel

Eastern and Central time zones preferred.

Role Overview

The Program Manager – Medical leads one large or several smaller field-based medical teams, which may include Medical Science Liaisons, Patient Diagnosis Liaisons, Clinical Trial Liaisons, and Clinical Nurse Educators. This role is accountable for client delivery, team performance, compliant scientific engagement, and the retention and growth of assigned programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and delivery of client strategy, contracted deliverables, and key performance indicators.
  • Manage, coach, develop, and retain high-performing field medical teams through regular one-to-one meetings, field visits, feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure team members have the scientific, therapeutic, product, technology, and compliance knowledge needed for credible peer-to-peer engagement with healthcare professionals.
  • Build trusted client relationships, lead quarterly business reviews, resolve program issues, and identify opportunities to strengthen or expand partnerships.
  • Translate program requirements into clear objectives, operational plans, reporting, and measurable team expectations.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition, People, Finance, Account Leadership, and other functions on hiring, onboarding, employee relations, resource planning, and program delivery.
  • Monitor program performance, gather field insights, prepare meaningful client and leadership reports, and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the therapeutic area, clinical evidence, treatment pathways, industry trends, competitive landscape, and relevant codes of conduct.
  • Manage budgets, expenses, forecasting inputs, and team resources in a cost-conscious manner.
  • Support program renewals, redeployment planning, and new business opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a medical credential required; terminal degree or MSN/NP preferred.
  • Three to five years of pharmaceutical or healthcare experience, including an understanding of drug development.
  • Pharmaceutical experience managing Medical Science Liaisons, Clinical Trial Liaisons, or similar medical affairs field based roles
  • Medical Affairs experience required
  • Demonstrated people leadership, coaching, and performance management experience.
  • Ability to critically evaluate and communicate complex scientific and clinical information.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements and industry codes governing field-based medical teams.
  • Strong client focus, judgment, listening, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Additional Requirements

  • Willing and able to travel 50% or more, including international travel.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to complete all required Amplity and client training.
