Background

Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs. The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. St. Joseph Center serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.

Brief Description of Principal Activities

Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles. St. Joseph Center’s integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs.

Serving as a team leader while adhering to the mission of St. Joseph Center, the Program Manager is responsible for providing both administrative and clinical support to program staff as well as overseeing day-to-day operations of the FSP-ICM (HSSP) team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Program Manager key areas of responsibilities include:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations.
  • Provide weekly supervision which includes clinical and administrative support to program staff.
  • Monitor weekly and monthly staff productivity and documentation submission.
  • Oversee service delivery and quality control issues to maintain the highest standard of services.
  • Provide support to clients as needed and assist with crisis management.
  • Participate in the on-call after hours schedule.
  • Utilize and assist team with utilizing evidence-based practices and be practice models to meet each client’s individual needs.
  • Visit and support staff at project-based buildings.
  • Along with the AVP of Programs, manage program activities in adherence to agency and contractual requirements and assure timely completion of all required documentation related to the program.
  • Monitor staff performance and initiate accountability discussions when needed.
  • Assist in creating and managing the program budget and monitor spending during the fiscal year.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing and revising all administrative policies and procedures in keeping with program requirements as needed.
  • Support staff if needed with completing assessments and re-assessments that are required by the agency and funders as needed.
  • Support staff with coordinating strategies for addressing mental health, substance abuse issues, relapse prevention, medication management, and any other risk factors that could impede permanent housing.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other service providers, police and public safety officers and/or any other community resources.
  • Prepare reports for the agency and funder when needed.
  • Participate in appropriate agency, contract and funder related meetings.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Must have the ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of people including clients, community, and other staff.
  • Must have excellent administrative and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to manage and supervise professional and para-professional staff while handling multiple tasks and relating to diverse populations.
  • Bi-lingual is preferred.

Experience:

  • 1-year minimum management and/or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience working on or with a DMH funded program is preferred.
  • Experience providing mental health and substance abuse services in a community setting; experience working with mentally ill/dual diagnosed population, para-professional and administrative staff is preferred.
  • Experience providing therapy, case management, and substance use services in a community setting with homeless or at- risk populations.

Education:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, human services or a related field.

Direct Reports:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Licensed MFT, LCSW, and/or LPCC in the State of California.
  • Valid California Class C Driver License and clear DMV report required.
  • Valid automobile liability insurance

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to use widely supported internet browsers.
  • Ability to use various electronic health records and other databases.

Travel Requirements:

  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • This is not a remote position, but there is flexibility and meetings will be scheduled accordingly.
  • Travel to meetings at multiple St. Joseph Center sites and at community partners’ locations as needed.
