Program Manager (India)

Our partner organisation seeks dynamic generalists with excellent communication skills who will be responsible for helping run and support environmental/health programs in India.
Location: Bangalore, Jaipur, and Indore or Bhopal
Time Zone: India Standard Time. Must be willing to work flexibly to collaborate with a global team across multiple time zones.

Language Requirements:

  • Bangalore: Full professional proficiency in English and Kannada required; Hindi is a plus
  • Jaipur: Full professional proficiency in English and Hindi required; Marwari is a plus
  • Indore/Bhopal: Full professional proficiency in English and Hindi required

About the Role

The Program Manager will lead and support environmental health programs in various Indian states. The role involves close collaboration with government bodies, industry stakeholders, and local partners to support regulatory implementation, reduce harmful exposure sources, and generate actionable data to inform policy.
This position requires a high-agency individual comfortable operating in dynamic environments, managing diverse stakeholders, and balancing strategy with execution.

Key Responsibilities

Government Engagement & Technical Assistance
  • Engage with policymakers across relevant ministries, agencies, and levels of government (central and state)
  • Support prioritisation of environmental toxins related health issues within government agendas
  • Provide technical assistance on regulatory implementation
  • Prepare policy briefs, informational materials, and technical resources
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and workshops
  • Coordinate project planning with government counterparts
Industry Engagement
  • Engage with key industry stakeholders across the supply chain
  • Present the case for eliminating harmful substances from products
  • Support manufacturers in identifying alternatives
  • Facilitate connections with suppliers of safer raw materials
  • Identify and address industry barriers to compliance
Research & Data Collection
  • Conduct product studies, including procurement and sample coordination
  • Collaborate with laboratories and research partners
  • Prepare study reports and synthesise literature
  • Analyse findings to inform program strategy
Strategy & Planning
  • Support the development of state-level implementation plans
  • Identify program risks and troubleshoot bottlenecks
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes
  • Share learnings with the global team
Partnerships & Local Coordination
  • Identify and manage relationships with local consultants and partner organisations
  • Build civil society and institutional partnerships
Cross-Team Contribution
  • Participate in regular team meetings and global calls
  • Contribute to content development, training materials, webinars, or internal guidance documents as needed

Candidate Profile

  • Willingness to travel approximately 8–12 weeks per year
  • Minimum 2-4 years of professional experience for an associate and minimum 5-8 years of experience for Program Managers 
  • Required language proficiency as outlined above
