POSITION TITLE: Program Instructor - Recreation
DIVISION Recreation & Facilities
REPORTS TO: Recreation Program Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Part-time
PAY RANGE: Starting at $13.00/hour

Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to effectively teach or assist with leading a variety of recreation programs. Responsibilities include planning, implementation, and facilitation of assigned programs in categories such as sports, wellness, senior, creative arts, homeschool, enrichment, nature, and special events. This position requires self-motivation and the ability to work independently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Assist with the set-up of program space and equipment, greeting and directing participants, and any required clean-up of various recreation programs and events offered by the department.
  • Completes projects by required deadlines as assigned by supervisor.
  • Enforces applicable rules and regulations with program participants and facility users.
  • Exhibits positive customer service when responding to public inquiries, suggestions, and feedback.
  • Reliable attendance and timeliness to scheduled shifts.
  • Attends meetings and trainings as required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to positively adhere to and enforce Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation policy and procedures; implement emergency plans.
  • Ability to positively promote the image of Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, guests and the public.
  • Physical requirements include lifting, kneeling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, jumping, and grasping
  • Ability to give and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and recreation software.
  • Ability to work in an office environment as well as outdoor weather conditions including heat, humidity, and cold.

Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

  • Prior teaching or instructor experience preferred.
  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire.

Must Complete Prior to Starting with Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation

  • Must pass a background check that encompasses national, state, and local searches, throughout employment.
