PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR
 
Position Type: Temporary Part Time
Number of Positions: Two (2)
Department: Community Services Department - Recreation Division
File Number: SV26-65
Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre (265 Cannifton Road, Belleville, ON)
Hours: 1-10 hours per week – daytime, evening and weekend shifts
Employee Group Non-Union
Salary: $19.99 - 21.90 per hour
Closing Date: Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 4:30 PM
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
As a member of the Community Services Department, this position will create lesson plans and provide instruction to recreation classes for preschool, children and youth. Topics could include art, science and recreational sports. Highschool students are welcome to apply.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Represent the City of Belleville in a professional manner with appropriate actions and conduct.
  • Responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants and to ensure the rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations are followed.
  • Responsible for the planning, development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the activities being led to ensure a successful program.
  • Ensuring their participants’ names and health conditions/modifications are known and that attendance is taken each class.
  • Ensure the completion and submission of all required administrative forms (lesson plans, injury reports, supply requests, etc.) as per the Department procedures.
  • Responsible for problem-solving when issues arise and providing quality customer service.
  • Assume the responsibility for assessing and responding in an emergency situation and completing the necessary reports as per the Department procedures.
  • Responsible for the proper handling, cleanliness, and care of the equipment, supplies, and facilities and to report any damages or losses to the supervisor.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience planning and leading children/youth programs
  • Excellent Customer Service skills
  • High Five – Principles of Healthy Child Development certification
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' Certification or equivalent from a WSIB recognized organization
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (“CRC”) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post secondary education in child/youth related field of study
  • Coaching/Instructing certification (ie. National Coaching Certificate)
