The Department of Microbiology invites applications for a Program Director II, a key administrative role supporting the Department Chair's Office. In this role, you will contribute directly to the department's research, service, and educational missions by ensuring smooth daily operations, anticipating needs, and supporting faculty, staff, and leadership. We are seeking someone who brings strong technical skills, excellent communication, and the emotional intelligence needed to build positive working relationships across a complex organization. Directs operations of a programmatic function. Operates with a high degree of independence. Responsible for program development, content and administration. Establishes program objectives, manages programmatic fiscal activities, supervises staff engaged in carrying out program activities and may require grant writing and/or other ability to secure program funding. Prepares various reports for program.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Research Operations Infrastructure Management: - Directs operational and programmatic support for the department's research enterprise, including shared resource facilities, equipment cores, and research infrastructure. - Coordinates equipment acquisitions, installations, preventive maintenance activities, and vendor relationships to support research operations and equipment utilization. - Facilitates collaboration between departmental laboratories and institutional partners, including Environmental Health Safety, Facilities, Maintenance, Physical Security, Animal Resources Program, and other units to support operational and compliance objectives.
• Equipment Asset Management: - Serves as Department Equipment Accounting Officer with responsibility for oversight, accountability, compliance, and utilization of approximately $14 million in research and capital equipment assets.
• Space Infrastructure Administration: - Leads departmental space management initiatives, including annual assessment and reporting of approximately 530 rooms and 77,000 square feet of research, administrative, and instructional space. - Conducts space utilization analysis and prepares recommendations to support space allocation, facility planning, and operational decision-making. - Coordinates use of conference and lecture rooms by managing reservation systems and supporting event planning needs.
• Financial Administrative Operations: - Administers procurement transactions, service agreements, payment processing, P-card reconciliation, and related financial documentation. - Oversees financial management of Educational Foundation funds, including expenditure tracking, payment processing, reconciliation activities, budgeting and fund planning for recruitment and event initiatives.
• Faculty Recruitment Workforce Support: - Facilitates faculty recruitment and onboarding activities, including candidate visit logistics, scheduling, and transition support for new faculty members.
• Events, Seminars Academic Programs: - Coordinates departmental seminar series and lecture programs, including speaker logistics, travel arrangements, itineraries, reimbursements, and event support.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $60,835 - $90,000

Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferred:

• Master's degree in research administration, business administration, or equivalent field
• Excellent email and calendar management, scheduling, and travel coordination
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including document review
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, set deadlines, and anticipate next steps
• High level of organizational skill, discretion, and attention to detail
• Proficiency with office software and willingness to learn new systems
• Professional judgment and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
• Previous experience working in or supporting a scientific research laboratory

Physical and Work Environment Requirements This position involves regular movement throughout departmental and campus facilities, including walking between buildings and standing for extended periods during events. The role requires the ability to assist with event setup and logistics, including occasional lifting or transporting of materials related to seminars, meetings, and departmental activities.
