Job Description

Every day, millions of Australians connect, work, stream, and stay in touch on the Optus network. When it functions without interruption, it’s easy to take for granted. But behind it is a team making thousands of decisions daily - decisions that maintain connections for people, businesses, and communities.

Right now, Optus is passionate about getting the fundamentals right—simplifying how we work, lifting standards, and building a more reliable, resilient experience for our customers.

The Program Delivery Director manages the end-to-end delivery process of an IT Transformation sub-program, a major and complex Optus initiative. This role governs all phases of the program across linked workstreams (BSS, OSS, Data, CIAM, and Digital). It promotes delivery excellence, ensuring timely, budget-friendly, and high-quality results. The Program Delivery Director is the main accountable person for the specific sub-program health, governance, and reporting to executives. This role works closely with the GM IT Transformation, peer Program Delivery Directors, SteerCo sponsors, and senior leadership at Optus.

If you’re looking to do work that matters - and help build what comes next - this is your opportunity to be part of it.

What You’ll Do | Your day to day will consist of

  • Govern the respective sub-program of the IT Transformation including management of the sub-program delivery roadmap and coordinated plan across all workstreams.

  • Chair governance forums, including Sub-Program Forum, SteerCo briefings, and produce executive packs.

  • Manage vendor delivery accountability, ensuring performance against agreed SOWs, achievements, and quality standards.

  • Drive coordinated planning across workstreams, maintaining critical path and dependency visibility.

  • Own sub-program-level financial management, including AOP budget tracking, Capex forecasting, and financial reporting.

  • Identify, bring up, and resolve program-level risks and issues to maintain executive confidence.

  • Partner with Change Management to ensure business readiness and organisational change.

  • Build and sustain a high-performing program team culture across onshore, offshore, and vendor resources.

What You Bring | What makes you perfect for the role?

  • 15+ years' experience in technology program delivery, including 5+ years leading enterprise-scale transformation programs in a multi-vendor telecommunications environment.

  • Deep expertise in BSS/OSS transformation; familiarity with platforms like Salesforce Communications Cloud, ServiceNow.

  • Proven governance, coordinated planning, and financial management capability, including SteerCo reporting and RAIDC management.

  • Demonstrated success in holding large system integrators accountable to delivery commitments in complex, offshore-heavy delivery models.

  • Outstanding collaborator management and influencing skills across C-suite, delivery teams, and vendor leadership.

  • Strong knowledge of Optus Delivery Methodology or equivalent enterprise program delivery frameworks.

  • People leadership skills with the ability to build, mentor, and retain high-performing delivery teams.

The good stuff…. | What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive remuneration, plus $80 monthly credit, 25% off Optus products, and exclusive shopping discounts with our retail partners — making everyday life a little more affordable. Genuine Flexibility - work three days in the office, two days from wherever works best for you.

  • An office campus that has it all - cafes, chill-out zones, GP, post office, gym, and on-site childcare centre. It’s built for real life.

  • Great leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever matters most to you.

  • Inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks, because family comes first!

  • Build meaningful connections through colleague-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network, and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).

  • Your wellbeing matters, so we offer free counselling and support services, available 24/7 in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.

  • A free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon. Or, heaps of onsite parking. Plus, end-of-trip facilities with lockers, showers, irons, and hair dryers.

Not every box ticked? Apply anyway. We believe the right approach matters more than a perfect CV. We’ll back you to grow from there.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying ‘yes’ to embracing individual differences. We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. We also want to do our best to make our recruitment process inclusive.
