JOB PURPOSE:

The Office of Campus Life strives to create a student-centered environment that supports the achievement of students' academic, professional, and personal goals while promoting civility, respect, integrity, and equity among members of the University and greater community.

The innovative programming designed by the talented staff of Student Life aims to foster professional experience through involvement with and/or in the following key areas: Student Publications; Student Government & Leadership; Student Activism & Service; Fraternity & Sorority Life; School Spirit; University Ambassadorship; Special Events and Activities​.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadsrship, The Program Coordinator of Student Life Operations is responsible for supporting the strategic vision, operational efficiency, and overall success of student life initiatives within the Office of Student Life. This position oversees student organization management, coordinates communication strategies, manages student engagement platforms, and fosters collaboration among student leaders, campus partners, and university stakeholders. The Program Coordinator plays a critical role in enhancing the student experience through co-curricular programming, organizational support, and leadership development.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

Has responsibility or authority which is limited to the direction of students and temporary workers.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts may include senior administrators, faculty, students, and staff. External contacts may include vendors, consultants, and the general public.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Student Organization Advising & Leadership Development
    Provides comprehensive guidance and advisement to registered student organizations, ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. Serves as a primary point of contact for student leaders, fostering leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and student engagement.
  • Operational Management
    Manages operational processes related to student organization registration, event planning, funding allocation, and risk management. Coordinates monthly Undergraduate Student Organization (UASO) meetings to facilitate collaboration, information sharing, and resource distribution among recognized student organizations.
  • Fundraising & Resource Development
    Develops and implements fundraising strategies and secures financial resources to support student life programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Parent Engagement & Communication
    Oversees the content and functionality of the Howard University Parent Portal, ensuring timely communication, resource sharing, and engagement opportunities for families to support student success.
  • Student Engagement Platform Management
    Oversees the administration and optimization of the University’s student engagement platform, Anthology - ENGAGE. Manages student organization profiles, events, and reporting features to enhance engagement tracking and data-driven decision-making.
  • Program Development & Communications
    Develops and manages communication strategies to promote student life programs, initiatives, and events across digital, print, and social platforms. Supervises the planning, production, and publication of the Howard University Yearbook in collaboration with student editors, photographers, and campus partners.
  • Policy Enforcement & Compliance
    Responsible for enforcing all Howard University and Office of Student Life policies, rules, expectations, and guidelines as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Work Schedule & Flexibility
    Maintains availability Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., and demonstrates flexibility to work during evenings and weekends as necessary to support programs and events.
  • Other Duties
    Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Life.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to develop and maintain proficiency in the utilization of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Workday, and related software applications to perform a variety of typing and/or project assignments.
  • Proficiency in student engagement platforms (e.g., ENGAGE, Campus Labs).
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of basic record keeping procedures. Skill in basic arithmetic, grammar, and spelling.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students, and the general public.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1-3 years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, student engagement, or related fields.
