Sarasota County offers a variety of outdoor experiences for people of all ages and abilities to play, learn and grow! Our Parks, Recreation and Natural resources Department is seeking a Program Coordinator who is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and promoting, recreational programs, special events, and other related programs and activities of a tier one historical recreation facility. In this role, you will...
Manage day-to-day operations of Phillippi Estate Park.
Instruct Park visitors and staff on facility and park usage requirements and ensure compliance with reservation agreements.
Coordinate oversight of events scheduled within the park.
Innovatively create, plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of recreational, cultural/historical, and nature-based programs and services to meet the community's needs.
Programming responsibilities include staffing; budgeting; marketing; securing and setting up/tearing down equipment; enforcing safety rules and regulations; reserving space; obtaining permits, waivers, and insurance forms; collecting fees; pursuing partnerships; evaluating activities; surveying participants; tracking expenses; recruiting volunteers; and reporting outcomes accurately and timely.
Coordinate Park and facility maintenance to ensure a safe and clean park and appropriate maintenance for amenities; provide Contractual oversight for facility and park.
Assist in the development of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards. Assist in preparing and administering the budget for park and programs and grant and partnership opportunities. Purchase supplies and equipment as needed.
Serve on committees and participate in networking opportunities when offered.
Seek out training opportunities and programs to enhance knowledge and leadership skills. Participate in pertinent classes offered by the county. Participate in team meetings and events.
Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of service to customers by offering suggestions and participating as an active member of the team.
Work Hours:
Full-Time, 40 hours per week
As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Recreation, Leisure Services, Education, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field and two (2) years of related experience.
A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in the above fields can substitute for one year of professional experience.
Progressively responsible professional experience as described herein can substitute on a year-to-year basis for the required college education
Valid Florida driver’s license
Ability to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid within the first (6) months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)

Starting Pay: $56,139.20
