Job Description

The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating SNAP-Ed activities, including nutrition education and PSE (Policy, Systems, Environment) programming initiatives, across multiple youth and adult community settings. The coordinator provides general support and assistance to the program manager in the development and implementation of project activities and deliverables. Program goals include increasing knowledge of nutrition and physical activity to help maintain wellness and avoid chronic diseases. Programs emphasize nutrition, wellness, chronic disease management, food safety, food systems, and/or gardening or similar.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and implements, with oversight from the Program Manager, obligations of contractual and grant-funded projects to ensure timely program deliverables are met for SNAP-Ed.
  • Monitors, coordinates, and oversees nutrition education schedules regarding the implementation of daily programmatic activities.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with program partners and project staff to ensure effective communication and efficient program implementation.
  • Works with Program Manager to provide ongoing quality assurance, information sharing, and problem solving.
  • Integrates new ideas and concepts with oversight from management staff to improve project delivery, content, and/or evaluation for target audiences.
  • Supports regularly scheduled NAL staff meetings for optimal team building and performance, program quality, and communication.
  • In conjunction with the Program Manager, supports inventory management and organization of program supplies, resources, and educational materials.
  • Assists with the collection of program evaluation documents with support of management staff.
  • Guides partners and staff regarding project evaluations, such as data collection and management.
  • As requested, assists management with drafting of quarterly and/or annual reports of program activities, attendance, and evaluation/outcomes.
  • Communicates formally on at least a bi-weekly basis with supervisor.
  • Supports program and staffing transitions and ensures continuity of services during grant period.
  • Supports SNAP-Ed sustainability activities such as partner communications, compiling resources, and assessment.
  • Supports successful program close-out, adapting to evolving close-out guidance as it becomes available from funder.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills that engage diverse groups of people.
  • Must have strong ability to establish priorities, work independently and within a team, and meet competing deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong culinary/cooking demonstration background.
  • Self-motivated, hard-working, and dependable.
  • Ability to anticipate challenges, develop and implement proactive approaches to mitigating challenges, and problem solve.
  • Must be proficient in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office, including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams. Must have the ability/desire to learn new software as needed.
  • Current ServSafe certification or ability to acquire certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Familiar with and comfortable working in urban or rural settings and with diverse groups of people.
  • Knowledgeable of public health theories, principles, and practices.
  • Experience in data collection/entry and evaluation monitoring.

Experience:

  • Must have at least five years prior experience working with SNAP-Ed programming.
  • Three years of experience managing and/or coordinating community-based programs/activities with multiple stakeholders.
  • Three years of experience and strong working knowledge of programs that focus on nutrition, health promotion, and/or public health programming.
  • Experience working with youth and/or adults from under-resourced communities.
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating program processes and outcomes.

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in nutrition, dietetics, public health, health education, or culinary arts.
