Job Description

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Shelter Program Coordinator for the Sarasota County Area Command located in Sarasota, Florida.

Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 2pm to 10:30pm

The Shelter Program Coordinator supervises the activity of a group of Housing Monitors on one or more shifts. Supervision of this group includes recruiting, managing performance, schedule approvals, training, mentoring and providing regular program feedback to the Q Life Shelter Manager. Accepts and processes residents staying in shelter overnight; receives and receipts fees received from residents; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that shelter is maintained in a neat and proper order.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, practices, mission, and doctrines of The Salvation Army.
Knowledge and supports the agency mission.
Knowledge of CSIS.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications and able to look up information on the internet.
Ability to effectively communicate in the English language
Ability to maintain organized and timely records
Ability to professionally interact with community agencies, community resources and with clients
Ability to maintain driving ability according to State, DOT, and Salvation Army policies, procedures, and certifications.

Education and Experience
Bachelor Degree
And
two years experience managing and supervising social service programs.
Or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to observe, coach and effectively manage and instruct workers and ensure their safety.
Ability to follow written Salvation Army guidelines and policy.
Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
Ability to use good judgment in creating and implementing policy related to dealing with problematic issues where no established policy or procedures are in place.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 30 lbs)
