How You Will Help the Team
In support of IALR’s mission to drive economic transformation, the Advanced Learning Program Coordinator plays a critical role in addressing community needs across southern Virginia, including health, STEM, and literacy capacity. This role supports the Dan River Year AmeriCorps program by advancing educational opportunities and strengthening lifelong learning pathways for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. As a key member of a high-performing team that operates one of the largest AmeriCorps programs in Virginia, you will serve as the primary liaison between AmeriCorps members, community partners, and funders to ensure high-quality service delivery, measurable impact, and program growth.
What You Will Do
You will lead the coordination and advancement of the Dan River Year AmeriCorps program, ensuring high-quality service delivery, strong member engagement, and measurable community impact.
- Manage AmeriCorps members serving across multiple counties and cities, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching, evaluation, and retention
- Oversee daily program operations, including service projects, site visits, team meetings, alumni engagement, interviews, and timesheet approvals
- Ensure compliance with AmeriCorps and grant requirements, including submission of programmatic and compliance reports
- Support and manage grant-funded initiatives, adhering to all federal, state, and local guidelines and required trainings
- Develop and support program content and curriculum, including opportunities for direct STEM instruction
- Coordinate program logistics such as academic space utilization, registration, and operational planning
- Build and sustain partnerships through participation in regional councils, coalitions, and community outreach efforts
- Coordinate and support special events, including summer camps, family STEM nights, fundraisers, and new initiatives
- Collect, analyze, and report on program data to inform continuous improvement and expansion strategies
- Represent the Advanced Learning department at community meetings and external events
- Stay current on trends in STEM education and national service, while collaborating across divisions to support IALR’s strategic goal

QualificationsYour Knowledge and Expertise
You are a detail-oriented and relationship-driven professional who can manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong partnerships and program quality.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Associate’s required) in STEM, education, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- Three or more years of experience coordinating or administering education, workforce, or community-based programs
- Experience with AmeriCorps or national service programs, grant-funded initiatives, or curriculum development preferred
- Knowledge of K-12 education, lifelong learning, or workforce development programs
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual collaboration platforms
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Experience analyzing program data to drive improvements and support reporting requirements preferred
- Knowledge of regional community needs and available resources preferred
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel throughout Virginia and occasionally out of state
