Starting Wage: $13.00/hour

Closing Date: Open Until Filled

Shift/Workdays and Hours: Weeknights and Some Weekend Hours

The Athletic/Facility Attendant sets up, supervises, and closes all youth and adult athletic programs. Individuals supervised includes participants, spectators, and staff involved in events that occur in both indoor and outdoor facilities. Sports include but are not limited to baseball, basketball, flag football, softball, t-ball, volleyball, kickball, ultimate, futsal, soccer and pickleball.

Job Duties

  • Assists Athletics/Facility Team Lead
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional working relationships with others, individually and in a team environment. Opens and prepares facility for use prior to arrival of participants, spectators, and staff.
  • Maintains the appearance of each facility as needed.
  • Welcomes customers, staff, players, coaches, and spectators as they arrive at the facility/location and ensure they are properly registered prior to use.
  • Monitors staff, players, coaches, spectators, or participants in all aspects of the game, program, and/or facility.
  • Ensures rules, policies and procedures are being observed and followed.
  • Carries out all procedures exactly as described by the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in times of emergency or crisis. EAP training will be provided by MPRD.
  • May be required to maintain proficiency in computer data entry skills, including use of CivicRec and/or other software solutions. May answer the phone in a cheerful, polite manner. Directs phone calls to the proper people.
  • Follows procedures for closing and securing the designated facility at the end of each shift.
  • Completes all assigned facility maintenance and cleaning duties as directed.
  • Maintains a professional appearance according to department policies, including proper attire and footwear.
  • May supervise the fitness area and all members during operational hours.
  • May work in an after-school program setting for middle schoolers that includes monitoring participants, enforcing rules, and participating in activities.
  • May be tasked with keeping score for some Athletic Programs
  • Provides excellent customer service and possesses a service philosophy which reflects the mission for the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of and experience of recreation and fitness, with adult/youth sports, game rules, and regulations.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Work facilities include: Anthony and Eisenhower Recreation Centers, Douglass Activity Center, Anneberg Park, City Park, CiCo Park, Peace Memorial Auditorium, Manhattan High School East Campus
  • Work is performed: Weeknights and some weekends
  • Noise level and activity level will be varied.
  • Stands, walks, sits, uses hands, handles, feels, speaks, hears, climbs stairs, pushes, pulls, or lifts up to 50 pounds. Team lifts required for equipment exceeding 50 lbs.

Other Information

  • Must successfully complete American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid training (provided by MPRD).
  • Uniforms will be provided.

  • Applicants must pass a drug test
  • This is a seasonal position and, as such, is not covered by KPERS.
