Job Location Sarahs Hope Shelter - Baltimore, MD 21217 Position Type Part Time Salary Range $17.00 - $19.00 Hourly

Travel Percentage Up to 25%

Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and good upkeep of Hannah More Family Shelter, Sarah’s Hope Family Shelter, and Interim House, to include basic maintenance of floors, and general improvements and “handyman” tasks as needed. Also responsible for providing assistance in the supervision of shelter guests and ensures that necessary security is provided. On-Call status is defined as being available to be called to work on short notice if an emergency need arises at an emergency shelter site in the Baltimore region.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Assures that Daily/Weekly/Monthly schedule of Maintenance tasks are completed in a satisfactory and timely manner.

  • Assigns tasks to guests of the emergency shelter and assures they are carried out satisfactorily.
  • Assures bathrooms are clean and have sufficient personal supplies on a daily basis.
  • Provides Security for the shelter on a daily basis and identifies substitutes in his absence.
  • Assumes responsibility for observing when maintenance supplies need re-ordering and informs Director accordingly.
  • Expected to at least cover a minimum of 3 shifts per month that are in need of coverage.
  • Ensures a peaceful and respectful atmosphere in all programs.

SECONDARY DUTIES

  • Assumes responsibility for storing maintenance supplies in proper location and keeping an adequate supply available for daily use. Completes daily maintenance checklist.

  • Observes where repairs/replacements may be needed and reports same to immediate supervisor for direction and follow-up.
  • Assists with the pick-up of donations and food orders as needed.
  • Completes Guest behavior reports when necessary.
  • Assists with and attends special events held by the Center and St. Vincent de Paul as necessary.
  • Supports a welcoming and positive environment for volunteers and works with them effectively.
  • Upholds the vision, mission and values of St. Vincent de Paul.
  • Participates in regular grant meetings.
  • Assists with and attends special events held by St. Vincent de Paul.
  • Attends, and as necessary represents St. Vincent de Paul in, external meetings and events.
  • All shift staff are required to be awake and alert during their duty hours.
  • During each shift, Program Assistant staff shall patrol the facility to ensure the safety of the facility and its inhabitants.
  • Other duties as assigned, within the scope of the position.



Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability and willingness to relate with others in a respectful manner, and work well as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with program participants, and to refer participants appropriately to case management staff.
  • Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of persons who are materially poor and/or homeless, and the ability to be comfortable working with persons of all socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.
  • An understanding and respect for the confidentiality of clients.
  • Ability to organize oneself, one’s work, and other persons sufficiently to accomplish the required daily tasks.
  • Knowledge of floor and building maintenance; basic handyman skills.
