Job Description

The Department of Philosophy and Religion in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a full-time appointment in applied ethics at the rank of Professorial Lecturer for Academic Year 2018-2019. The appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence on August 27, 2018.

The Department of Philosophy and Religion offers undergraduate degree programs in Philosophy and Religious Studies and graduate degree programs in Philosophy, including the M.A. Philosophy (including Philosophy and Social Policy) and a joint MA in Ethics, Peace and Global Affairs. Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD, however highly qualified applicants with a master’s degree related to applied ethics will be considered. We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in critical race theory, feminist theory, and bioethics. The position will require the incumbent to teach three courses per semester (fall and spring), including, but not limited to, introductory courses in ethical theory and applied ethics. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service.
