About the role
The Churack Chair in Chronic Pain, Education and Research (Chair) has been established by the University as a result of a donation from Geoff and Moira Churack.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a national and international clinical leader and advocate in Chronic Pain Medicine, partnering with external bodies to advance education and research
- Elevate the profile of the Chair, the University, and Chronic Pain research and education globally
- Lead, conduct and contribute to highimpact research in Chronic Pain Medicine
- Translate research outcomes into teaching programs across medical and health disciplines
- Undertake clinical and/or laboratorybased research as required
- Supervise higher degree research students in Chronic Pain Medicine
- Initiate new research programs and secure external funding, including competitive grants
- Publish and present research findings across academic, scientific and professional forums
- Foster a culture of research excellence and scholarship within the University and broader community
- Lead curriculum development and teaching in Chronic Pain Medicine, ensuring integration across relevant programs
- Deliver teaching across preclinical and clinical medical education and contribute to other disciplines as appropriate
- Collaborate with faculties (Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery, Health Sciences, Physiotherapy and others) to embed Chronic Pain content in curricula
- Promote interdisciplinary and cross-campus collaboration in education and research
- Support student recruitment, orientation and enrolment initiatives
- Contribute to planning and delivery of teaching programs in Chronic Pain Medicine
- Participate in and lead meetings, committees, and professional activities as required
Qualifications, skills & experience
- Strongly committed to, and supportive of, the Objects of the University.
- Strongly committed to, and supportive of, the Catholic Health Australia - Code of Ethical Standards.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Fellowship in Pain Medicine under the auspices of the Australian New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, or equivalent.
- Significant experience teaching in an undergraduate and postgraduate setting.
- Extensive clinical experience in the practice of Pain Medicine in a tertiary hospital setting.
- Evidence of research through either a higher degree or a significant history of publication in peer reviewed journals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to liaise effectively with patients, colleagues and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent organisational and management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional audit, clinical teaching and clinical research to advance the medical care of patients.
