About the opportunity
The Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning is an internationally acknowledged centre for intellectual, scientific, and creative research, and hosts a vibrant and successful research community. Creatively combining the disciplines of Architecture, Urbanism and Design, we explore how cities, spaces, buildings, technologies, and services can better meet the needs of people and society. Our educators and researchers are experimental, imaginative, and critical, innovating at the boundaries of their disciplines and creating exciting and engaging learning experiences for our students.
The school is in the process of creating a number of new research centres, and we are seeking to appoint a Professor of Urbanism with an outstanding reputation for research and research leadership to support our continued research growth.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
undertake senior research service and governance roles within the school, with a willingness to work across the school’s three disciplines;
pursue collaborative research with School colleagues including the development of competitive funding applications
mentor and support colleagues at all levels to achieve research success
achieve precision in reporting, measuring, benchmarking, and analysing research performance.
About you
an outstanding international research reputation in urbanism broadly defined, with a supporting research profile including competitive research grants and recognition as a lead investigator, publications and evidence of recognition within the broader research community
demonstrated senior research governance, leadership and service experience;
a distinguished record of scholarly teaching excellence as evidenced through successful student outcomes, successful supervision of PhD candidates, demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes and innovation
demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of research impact through engaging in knowledge or technology transfer and/or strong external collaborations and partnerships leading to improved policy or practice and/or enhancements to industry, professional bodies or the community
significant experience in people leadership and management within the higher education sector, including demonstrated excellence in supervising and/or mentoring others to success
