Job Description

The Department of Jewish Studies at Tulane University is searching for a full-time Professor of Practice (non-tenure track, 3-year renewable appointment) in modern Hebrew language. Appointment to begin July 1, 2026. Requirements include a PhD in language pedagogy, Hebrew, or a related field, extensive teaching experience at the college level and a record of success in the classroom. We especially welcome candidates with an interest in helping us build Hebrew language curricular offerings at Tulane. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester and will involve teaching at the first- and second-year levels as well as more advanced courses in the target language. As we are developing a Languages Across the Curriculum program, please suggest additional subject areas, both within and beyond Jewish Studies, where you might be able to teach a course in modern Hebrew.

Qualifications

Successful candidates should have a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field as well as a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Jewish Studies at Tulane is a free-standing department with seven full-time faculty and two visiting professors. There is a strong tradition of interdisciplinary work at Tulane, and members of the department and students engage with a range of disciplines. Tulane is a member of the AAU, and a R1 research institution that has a strong commitment to undergraduate education.
